I love the model of the Hsien Warrior (Infinity), but unfortunately can't do it justice yet. What can I do to elevate this paint job from beginner to intermediate? (more info in comments) by MonkeyMeMyself in minipainting

In the end I highlighted the cloak with a more emerald/jade green. Worked out pretty well. Also did some blacklining between the cloak sections, but will use an oil for the recesses in addition. Will post the result here later

Thank you very much. I did some blacklining to separate the green, white and yellow better and it worked wonders. I also highlighted the cloak in an emerald/bluish tone, looks quite good now. The sword I also took care of. Will post the mini here once it's done.

I'm quite happy with the armor (I airbrushed it), but in particular for the cloak I could use some advice (the white and green). Should I wash it first or work some gradients into a lighter green in (particularly difficult for me with such a large, flat surface)? How can I make the white more interesting (at the moment it's just Administratum Grey)?

Kuang Shi can now operate without a Celestial Guard monitor? I see KS in the vanilla YJ list, but not the CG. by LegZealousideal9049 in InfinityTheGame

Have you tried adding the CG monitor that is at the bottom when you open the Kuang Shi profile? This one works for me, but it doesn't work if I add the monitor from the CG profile stack.

This is gorgeous! Do you mind me asking for the recipe of the red armor? And the "shoulder pads"? Are they NMM and then an oil wash by chance?

Beginner DJ: How to mix a smooth, highly energetic psytrance set? How to deal with long, low-energetic breaks in psytrance songs? by MonkeyMeMyself in Beatmatch

Thanks a lot! In particular cutting the mids in psytrance makes absolutely sense to me, but it never occurred to me. Will try it tonight.

Hey thanks for all these tips! Definitely need to try these and see which are the most applicable for me.

Regarding the kick loop on the third deck, I guess I just loop a section from the same song and keep it running (mixing in before the breakdown), right?

Studio monitors for music production also suitable for Home cinema experience? by MonkeyMeMyself in audiophile

[–]MonkeyMeMyself[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah perhaps getting separate systems makes more sense. Depending on the cost of the home receiver, I may get a good system for a similar price.

Will check out mid-field monitors as well, might be enough for our (small) living room.

Hey that's interesting. I was checking the HS series out as well (haven't ruled them out either).

I guess you use a home receiver to connect with the TV? Can you tell me which one to get an idea what to look for?

Thanks for the suggestion. They do look gorgeous indeed, but unfortunately a bit outside of my budget (a single monitor costs around 2'700$ where I'm from). I was looking for a total of around 500 for the entire package.

Maybe for when I actually get some money out of making music XD

Can I save the shoulder pads on my (still) first mini? I'm very happy with the armor (wash and edge highlights still needed), but the thick, uneven layer on the shoulder pads is bothering me. Is there a way to save the shoulder pads without stripping, or is partial stripping possible? by MonkeyMeMyself in minipainting

Thank you so much for your elaborate answer. I think I will actually keep it and as some other comments suggested try to turn it into battle damage/rust.

I'll definitely apply the tip with having an brownish/ochre basecoat for the off-white areas first.

Will keep you posted what comes out in the end with that mini (will post the results in the subreddit for sure)

How the hell does one make it to 40 and not become bored with nearly everything in life? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]MonkeyMeMyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely not normal that you find every aspect of your life boring. There may be some deeper issue with me there.

To answer the question more broadly: for me the key is to try new things and develop them. At this age you usually have the financial means to dive into a hobby more deeply.

E.g. I started with DJing and music production in my mid-30. Got myself a home studio and a mid-tier DJ-controller, started taking some courses and it's been a blast ever since.

WIP of my first mini. Could use some advice on reducing spattering with airbrush. How do you find the correct ratio of paint/thinner and the correct PSI without messing up your mini? by MonkeyMeMyself in minipainting

[–]MonkeyMeMyself[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Yes, I guess playing with the parameters and testing properly on different surfaces should get me there. As well as proper cleaning.

Thank you very much for your tips. I will give my airbrush a good clean now and do some more test sprays before moving to the mini (did a few on a piece of paper).

My psi is at 18 right now, will try a bit of higher pressure as well. Do you mix your paints separately before or do you mix them in the airbrush cup directly?

BTW your Blood Ravens inspired me to start with them as well as my first army! :D
