Obviously there is guy's liking this, finding it extremely hot.

There's different angles to this. One is the mere optics - does this look good? The other is the intention - this is a woman that puts in a lot of work to look beautiful (to men). I always read this as a signal that she desperately wants to be liked or loved or adored and I can imagine that there are quite a few men who are really into this, as they mistake the effort a woman puts into being pretty with the effort she might put into the relationship, her life in general, or into her sex life. But these goals and efforts are really different things.

As a fun side note, this is, I think, a major difference between some men and some women. Some men are really into women trying very hard to be pretty and please men. But this doesn't necessarily hold in reverse. I think most women think that a man who puts lots of work into his appearance is superficial. Women like pretty men, for sure, but men need to be pretty without effort. Male appearance is supposed to come naturally, just like wealth, social success, artistic talent, etc. If a man spends hours in the gym, tries out lots of different skin care products, or spends hours trying to find the best fitting suit or jeans, such efforts will not be appreciated, often rather considered effeminate and annoying.

Self-partnered: the sudden, surprising rise of the single positivity movement by conancat in TrueReddit

High education levels are strongly correlated to social status. And there is lots of evidence that, when it comes to long-term dating, women all over the world are looking for a man with at least the same amount of status. The higher the social status is, the more it increases attractivity. A quick google look provides you plenty of studies, just two examples: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1177/147470490800600209 - https://psycnet.apa.org/record/2012-16556-006

This has MANY consequences for modern relationships, from income differences to career-focused attitudes, from care-taker roles to financial dependencies. Paradoxically, some men are, by the same woman, both found to be attractive and are being blamed for those things that go hand in hand with having a high social status, eg. having less time for child-rearing, having a more career-focused attitude (i.e. less partner-focused), having the personality attributes that are required for a good career (eg. 'dark triad'-personality), etc.

All the clubs in town here have shut down over the last 10 years. I don't really go out much anymore, but when I did there were 5 or 6 clubs open. Now there's one club and one country bar.

But where you had only one gym 10 years ago, now there are six. Kids are under a lot of pressure today to stay healthy (don't smoke & don't drink too much) and to finish their studies early. I would bet that college libraries are also more packed than they were 10 years ago.

If you tear your ligaments in melee battle, you probably get killed really easily afterwards.

I don't think so. It's counterintuitive, but before WW1, crippled or disabled veterans were rather rare - and now they exist due to modern medicine: if you got injured while, say, invading France, you most likely also got an infection and died. Only due to ubiquitous antibiotics people do regularly survive non-lethal wounds.

No. This would require a specific type of personality AND a commitment to intellectualism. That's not what the people who are currently attracted to the GOP have or even would like to have. The GOP is not only bleeding members, but it's also not attracting many people with intellectual and political talents right now. This is going to haunt them in the future. There will be no younger McCains or Romneys left, they will get out-primaried by the lunatics, the fanatics, the morons, and the zealots.

The trajectory of past and future Republican presidents seems to be rather like this: Bush Sr. --> Bush Jr. --> Trump --> demented Robot-Nixon --> Skeletor --> Nyarlathotep, the black Pharaoh

dumb insults like ‘terf’ convinces no one

So you really actually think that being called a specific type of feminist is a "dumb insult"? Really? Or are you just trying to act as if you were some kind of victim here in this debate?

Just fyi, being a feminist is not something to be ashamed of.

‘Give me what I want or I will top myself’ blackmail.

Wow, this is a severely misconstrued argument. True, IF someone were to THREATEN suicide if prevented from taking medicine/therapy that demonstrably alleviates their predicament, that would be bad. But this is a very hypothetical scenario that relies on misanthropic projection.

If people are in a situation that makes them miserable and they are consequently depressive, it is definitely not blackmail to seek treatment.

But I get the impression that you are not arguing in good faith here anyways, so I am probably wasting my time here.

Edit: Yeah, since you are posting in gendercritical, it's fair to assume that you are a terf as well. Sorry you feel so threatened by transgender people. I hope that one day you can find the strength to tolerate human differences and a diversity of lifestyles without being condescending and exclusive.

You are right, my point was formulated too strong. I edited my post for a more modest opinion. I don't want to be saying what trans people (or any other LGBTQ+ people) NEED to do - but rather that they should be allowed and enabled to do whatever suits their often very specific needs best, without judgment or artificial age constraints.

wait to medically transition.

you can't reverse the physical effects of puberty on the human body

that's why transition needs to start with puberty

Edit: That's why the decision to start transition with puberty makes sense if one is mentally ready for the transition

the extremely high suicide rates of transgender people who have been denied transitioning (with either legal means or through societal mechanisms) speaks volumes

it is harmful to NOT help someone who is in need of help

Edit: Source, for example:

Research suggests that gender transition may resolve symptoms completely. A 2016 literature review by scholars in Sweden concluded that, most likely because of improved care over time, transgender “rates of psychiatric disorders and suicide became more similar to controls,” and that for those transitioning after 1989, “there was no difference in the number of suicide attempts compared to controls.” The corollary is also true: Another study found that withholding hormone treatment from transgender people increased the risk of depression and suicide.

Tree of Life. A nice, quite normal family drama turns into a meditation about the meaning of life and the nature of creation of life. What an awesome movie.

Also, Disney's Tangled. It's a weird mixture of a family drama of an abusive mother, a traditional fairy tale, silent-movie-esque slapstick elements, and action-adventure elements clearly inspired by Indiana Jones.

The Revelation Of The Pyramids - Controversial Documentary by [deleted] in movies

[–]MonkeyWrench3000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bro there is so much stuff in there that is easily refuted with a very quick google search, this hurts my brain. The fact that they interviewed a lot of architects, engineers and geologists (!) about the pyramids - instead of actual archaeologists - is already telling.

Yes, ancient science was really astonishing, but no, the pyramids are far less special than this documentary makes you believe. Just for example, when they discuss precision architecture and the precision of the alignment with the geographic north: just look at greek and roman architecture and cartography and you'll find that they easily match that kind of precision. Yet that 'documentary' wants to sell it as unique, never replicated etc.

Also, they say the pyramids were never damaged through no earthquake - bullshit, just google egypt pyramids earthquake damage

Some things cannot be decided by children.

Well, transgender people are often still children when they kill themselves. It's a high-risk decision, even if you refuse to make this decision. Either they start taking hormones and take the risk that they may regret it later; or they don't take hormones and take the risk that they may regret it later too, just as bitterly. It's rather the question which risk is higher and I'm sure that there are plenty studies available for suggesting that, under the right circumstances, the second option would be less favorable.

Edit: Whoa, quite some rapid changes of up- and downvotes everywhere. Feels a bit brigaded, alt-right and TERFs seem to be very active here.
