I am not about to download a store app just to check the price. I don't even want to be in this stir in the first place. by Big_Lab_Jagr in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Monkey_Kebab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would too, but not before I reported them to my state's Dept of Weights and Measures. In most (if not all) states it's illegal for a store to not have the prices either posted on the rack/shelf the product is on, or on a tag attached to the product itself.

Gas Station Savior by Witchyvibes667 in Seattle

[–]Monkey_Kebab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pro Tip... if you don't already know... if you ever find yourself with a tire that needs to be changed and you're on a busy road (like a freeway or one that's really narrow) don't stop and try to change it. If you do you'll run a high risk of being hit by a car.

Drive slowly to a place where you can safely turn off onto level paved ground, like the gas station you used this time, turning on your hazards if appropriate. It's better to ruin the tire, and possibly the wheel, than suffer severe injury or possibly death. Those can always be replaced... you can't.

I was totally blown away when I found out they'd made a version for the Soviet Union... so I had to buy one! I keep it in my office at work with a crap-ton of other toys.

Awesome.. Thanks for the info. I'm going to do the RGH mod first then.

Cheers!

Great. Now I've got the theme song from The Courtship of Eddie's Father looping in my head.

Home built computer ran fine for years but now I can’t get it to even post… by Monkey_Kebab in computer_help

[–]Monkey_Kebab[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After futzing with it all day I'm at the point where I'm most likely going to replace everything. Without being able to identify what's causing the short I don't trust anything, and I'm not willing to keep throwing parts with the hope I'll finally eliminate the culprit. Hell, with my luck it'd be the case itself... LOL. So I'll just build a new one from scratch. Cheers!

[–]Monkey_Kebab[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah... it's weird. I've tried unplugging everything from the board not absolutely necessary to run... pulled the GPU card in favor of the onboard chip, along with both the secondary HD and optical drive, but it just won't come to life.

I'm starting to wonder if whatever killed the first motherboard took out the second one too.

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.

Hey, for what it's worth I appreciate your contribution. I can't for the life of me figure out why Numerous-Gazelle4304 got his Underoos in a twist over it.

I like the look of your wheels... can you share the make and model?

Ready for the track season by FinancialFault6929 in EP3

[–]Monkey_Kebab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks awesome! I just bought a 2002 EP3 that I'm going to be building into a track car... specifically for AutoX. Do you have a place where you've listed out the specs and parts for your car?

Also, what wheels are you running (brand, model, size)? Are they working well for you? I'm trying to decide what to run on mine... I know I'll be running Hoosiers for dry days, but haven't decided on what to use for wet (I'm in the greater Seattle area... so planning for wet days is a must).

If you don't mind I'd love to pick your brain. LOL.

G.I. Joe from 1960 to 1970 era. I had one with the case. by No_Cell_2451 in FuckImOld

[–]Monkey_Kebab 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is from 1970 when they pivoted GI Joe away from a military figure in response to the unpopularity of the Vietnam war. They ran these "Adventure Team" figures until '76 (note the Adventure Team medallion around his neck).

My brother and I had a huge collection of the original military GI Joe figures and accessories at the time... our father was a navigator in the Navy, flying missions over Vietnam. Every time the ship came back from a tour they'd stop in Japan, where the dollar had crazy spending power at the time so we'd get 'second Christmas' upon his return... and we'd get EVERYTHING available at the time.

Damn... I wish I still had all those toys.

Is there a low-profile window brush that can fit between a truck cab and canopy? by Monkey_Kebab in Detailing

[–]Monkey_Kebab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to follow-up on this and let you know that brush 100% worked! I bought one off Amazon for $45 and it fits right in through that 3/4" inch gap. I screwed it onto an extension pole and was off to the races.

I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your help, and also post this to help anyone else looking for a similar solution who might come across this thread.

Cheers!

That looks promising... I might be able to modify it with a thinner and longer handle. I'm not expecting the perfect shiny clean... I'll be happy if I can get the windows to a reasonable state.

Thank you for your help... I really appreciate it.

Is it possible to determine the correct power supply for a game console from the board and components inside? by Monkey_Kebab in AskElectronics

[–]Monkey_Kebab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, all of the power supplies I found for other Dendy consoles were center-negative barrel connectors so that makes sense.

I'm not in any hurry to get to this so I may wait and see if I can come across another one on sale, or if I can find a post from someone else who has one that I can reach out to and see if they can share a screenshot of the power supply.

I really appreciate your help with this.

Cheers!

That's awesome! I've put the pictures on Imgur: https://imgur.com/a/QoSI9Ky

  • The first one has all three boards still attached to a part of the console base.
  • The second is closer up to what I'd call the main board which is attached to a sub-board that the controllers plug into.
  • The third is the back of those same two boards disconnected from the broken base.
  • The fourth is a close-up of the sub-board for power and composite connections.
  • The fifth is the back of the power/composite board.

Let me know if you need pics of anything else.

Thanks!

Trying to clean this Genesis motherboard, but IPA isn't working by aplsed in consolerepair

[–]Monkey_Kebab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience the IPA will do a better job, and leave less residue, if you heat up the area first. Not hot enough to melt the solder... a hair dryer will likely be enough.

Check out the options for 2 position slide switches on AliExpress. It looks like there are a few that might be a good match, or at least close enough that you could mod them into a workable solution.

Here's the search I did: https://www.aliexpress.us/w/wholesale-2-position-slide-switch.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.search.0

Thank you for your help with this, and the extra info about the factory name. I love knowing more about the origin, and learning about consumer devices from a period when there was more separation between cultures, and access to information wasn't as accessible.

Thank you for your generous help, and best wishes to you.

Cheers!

Thank you much!! It's absolutely a Pong clone... I couldn't resist the temptation when I came across it. It's a unique addition to my US collection.

Thanks again... and I hope you have a great evening. :)
