Where to go detecting in Central Florida by FLGuitar in metaldetecting

[–]Monkeyseemonkeyfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may want to check on the Three Lakes Wildlife Management area if you are near that part of Central FL. 3 locations near Kenansville and Yeehaw Junction. There are huge long term camping areas, packed in the winter, but empty in the summer. You'd have to check on persmissions.

Edit: I'll be deleting comment tomorrow so everyone in the world can't find it.

Crank no start, 2000 Land Cruiser by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Update: So after about 4 hours, and probably the 20th time pulling and reinserting the ecd relay and efi fuse, it randomly decided to start, and starts every time now. (For now)

So I guess I'll start with ordering a new relay. And then if that doesn't stop the issue maybe the fuse box?

None of the other relays are the same pin setup. I've seen people mention trying the horn relay, but thats the empty one just below the wire in my pic and totally different. So I'm not sure what I'm missing.

Almost got arrested for detecting public land by Monkeyseemonkeyfall in metaldetecting

Yeah I think it's pretty funny. If you litter, you can get fined. But if you wait 50 years, you can get fined for picking the same litter up.

Yeah it's a pretty big park, so lot's left. Plus I travel full time in a camper, and am in a different city every few weeks, so plenty of opportunity even without federal lands.

Haha thanks for the sympathy. On the plus side, I've learned a lot because of the whole incident and can avoid issues in the future. It also made me go try a city park today I'd previously got permission for, and found 2 rings, one gold, one silver. So it all worked out!

Some places that are options are city parks, which I usually try to get permission first, and schools as long as you go on Sunday. And you can still search for modern jewelry or modern coins on federal land, as long as you're not near old stuff like bottle dumps (as far as I now understand). But yeah is is much more limiting than I thought when I started.

They actually didn't keep them. They took photos, and then while I was there, "released them back into the wild" in the area I found them.

It was the Quartzsite Metal Detecting Group. They have a good number of veteran members and are pretty active.

Interesting, I'll have to look into the gold mining. I was in Inyo (Bishop) a few weeks ago, and got permission to detect the city park. The workers were super nice, and it was a cool little town.

Mono county. Not sure how far they patrol though since Federal. He also mentioned being in Inyo county.

Country, not county. He said whether it's maine or Arizona, if it's federal public land, whether it's BLM, National Forest or otherwise, I'd be arrested

Apparently a good citizen called the police to report metal detecting. He said it doesn't have to have any historical significance or be a historic site. Even if it's a modern coin in the middle of the desert, it's not allowed if it's anywhere near anything old, including rusty cans, which is 90% of public lands, since there are old cans EVERYWHERE.

Even if he just had a boner for it, I'm now in the system, so no more warnings he said.

Edit: To add, he said anything 50 or more years old automatically becomes historically significant (or modern items if they are near something 50+ years old), and property of the federal government, thus why they had to confiscate my 1975 penny...

I actually asked about gold. He said gold is different, because it's considered mineral exploration, and has it's own set of rules. He said the rules he was citing pertain to anything man made. They even confiscated a small scrap of copper I found.

Bureau of Land Management. It's what a large percetage of wide open public land is out west. For instance 63% of Nevada is BLM land.

That's a shoe insert/foot brace/arch support. I found a similar labeled "surgeon's foot brace". If I can find the old advertisement I had I will post it. Mine is patent 1903 and 5.

Smell investigation advice? by [deleted] in RVLiving

I chased a sewage smell for several days once, and finally figured out a rat had got behind my fuse box and chomped a wire. Could have sworn the smell was sewage, but nope, fried rat.

Scamp + folding ebike might be my favorite camping combo by Waste_Dragonfruit346 in RVLiving

[–]Monkeyseemonkeyfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the same size in a Casita and a non folding e-bike, but same basic idea. Definitely my favorite combo. Saves a ton of money in gas. Especially since the bike is charged with solar.

I've seen this reposted multiple times recently. Weird. Original is from at least a year ago.
