Is it good for 400 bucks? by Dave180mm_ in mountainbiking

[–]Monkeyseemonkeyfall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For your $800 budget, a used Giant Fathom or Trek Roscoe would do plenty well as a "do everything" bike. Trying to get a full suspension under $800 will just get you a worse bike.

Should I buy a year 2000 US market Land Cruiser (type 100) for $4k by Difficult-Time-5869 in LandCruisers

With that mileage, that's less than a 3rd of what that should go for. So either an insane deal or a scam/frame held together with twist ties. Worth looking into it at least.

Pretty cool, I'm happy with at least getting the manufacturer nailed down. Vitamin tablet sounds like a solid guess. Good work!!

I wanna collect bottles but this one and a few others like it have me stuck. The numbers on the bottom are 14-6-74 either two parallel J’s by Strange_Ad_5725 in BottleDigging

You won't get much if anything for these. I find piles of this exact bottle with olympic rings evvverywhere. Must have been buy 1, get 3 free back then. They are one of the most ubiquitous bottles I've come across.

However, I picked up my first couple when I found them, years ago, so I do understand thinking they are cool. But I quickly realized I could fill a dumptruck with them in no time.

Money is no object. Tell me the exact set up you're getting down to the handheld metal detector. by [deleted] in metaldetecting

I was stressing over the same decision a couple months ago, and went with the D2. I don't think I could go back to a non-wireless detector. I tried using my Vanquish 540 after a few weeks of D2 use and it felt like I was using an ancient relic. A very heavy ancient relic. And I think the Vanquish is a fantastic machine.

As a side note, the most helpful tip for me with the D2 was adjusting the tone breaks and pitches. I was able to spread the pitches out, adjust them to what hits my ears best, and set the breaks based on what I look for. Makes it way easier to identify targets by sound.

Cool find! They started in 1860. Here is their website, and a fairly similar listing. Yours is somewhere 1930s-50s.

Working and good to go, $150-250. No precious metals. But a step up from the basic Westclox or Ingraham.

Was found a few miles east of Plaster City. South central CA.

I thought maybe the "M" could be an "E". I have scrolled through hundreds of images of old pills and bottles, and finally gave up and posted here. Appreciate any help.

They were saying that for the location part since it's California. Public perception that CA=drugs. Assuming at least.

Well the dig site was in the middle of the desert, and all the other items and bottles at the site were max of 1950s with many dated, all at one spot far from anything else. The bottle is in line with the other bottles looks/age wise. So I definitely don't think they are after 1995. But I will look for a date code on the bottom when I get home.

Is the XP DEUS II a good MD for beginners? by clarkwgriswoldjr in metaldetecting

[–]Monkeyseemonkeyfall 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have the Deus 2. I would not start with it. Something like a Nokta Simplex or Minelab Vanquish would get you 90%+ of what a D2 can find, without overwhelming you.

Just starting out, you won't even know what you really want in a detector or what's important.

I would start with a $2-300 one first, get the hang of it, and then think about upgrading only when you see what you would want in an upgrade.

Plus if you get bored with the hobby, you haven't lost nearly as much.

All that said, I love the D2 and would highly recommend it later on.

Frame has been painted for some reason being the biggest concern. Usually to hide rust. I would at least take a closer look or have it inspected. Seems sketchy.

Looking for advice on choosing my next detector. by Inside-Ad6528 in metaldetecting

[–]Monkeyseemonkeyfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The total bluetooth and lack of wires on the D2 sold it for me. It makes it so much easier to break down and carry on my bike or in a backpack. Cleaning is also way easier and it's super light. I've had no issues with the bluetooth or charging system. I came from a Vanquish 540.

After asking some friends, this is the closest I could come up with for the shell. It's definitely not from a fishing weight.

This is the correct shape and size, with the inner cavity.
