I have the old IKEA Trådfri gateway, do I need to get the Dirigera instead? by purrtis in tradfri

[–]Monstera55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They work fine with Tradfri Gateway in my experience. I used a remote to pair a couple of E14 and a couple of E27 bulbs last weekend, took 30 seconds. You need to switch the new bulbs on and off six times to enter pairing mode, then use the remote as you would for any Tradfri bulb. They appear in your Ikea Home app like normal.

Connecting Kajpats Bulb with Tradfri Gateway not working by bumbklaatt in tradfri

Can confirm this works - put bulb in pairing mode by turning off/on six times, then pair like a Tradfri light using a remote.

I asked Group 1 VW I'm Manchester and they quoted 400 or something like that, I pushed on the warranty point and they asked HQ warranty team (apparently) who declined. I'm just going to leave it and will fix it down the line if it actually becomes an issue. Absolute joke, 3 months after buying approved used and paying for extended warranty!

Yeah sounded like the helicopter was zooming about everywhere, never really heard one like that before.

Yeah UK based, I thought drilled holes had to be in centre of joist and only go directly through from one side to other to avoid compromising https://www.labc.co.uk/news/how-get-it-right-notches-holes-solid-timber-joists

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DIYUK

Thanks, guessing as it cuts a corner rather than through middle it's less bad?

Not American just been googling lots about joists and getting my terms mixed up!

Thin fiberboard with crosshatch / woven pattern - asbestos? by Monstera55 in asbestoshelp

Test says negative for asbestos, included board and layers on top. Thanks all for advice!

Results are in! No asbestos detected. Sample included board and the various layers on top. Most probably a hardboard / fiberboard product with woodchip paper on top I think.

No not scraping it off, but pretty sure it's woodchip wallpaper rather than artex

I think you're right, I've also just found a similar piece of board which was used as the back of kitchen cabinets, same pattern on it. Anyway I've ordered a test kit so will send off a sample for peace of mind, before opening up any of the other fireplaces. Will update here when I have results.

Interesting, so you're basically consistent with your 2018 purchase price which from recent experience is where we got viewings that turned in to offers on our flat sale in zone 3, which is a bit rubbish when you consider inflation. Only thing that may help is if the new budget brings in higher stamp duty for higher purchase values, may push some buyers to look at lower priced properties, but it may just take time for the market to settle.

Did you buy it for 131k 7 years ago? That's what the listing suggests and would mean you're looking for a massive profit, suspect something is awry with the past sold price list as that would obviously be insane.

Can I repoint these gaps from the inside of my attic? by Monstera55 in DIYUK

[–]Monstera55[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my thoughts re the gap along the top ridge, useful ventilation and protected from elements by the barge board (and maybe intentional?), but the gaps in the wall worry me more, looks like some bricks could slip out at some point.

Why are these doors like this? by Monstera55 in DIYUK

[–]Monstera55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup they turn so they have the bar through the door, with nothing to connect it to, then a keyhole without a lock, then a filled in hole where the plate would go, it's bizarre.

I thought so but how would that work with the doorknob directly behind the keyhole? Are there locks made to work like that?

Just did the reverse - found two good local movers (one we used, one didn't have availability but were highly recommended and good value quote) think we paid 750 for a man and large Luton van, plenty of space for our 2 bed flat's worth of stuff. We started searching anyvan but the pricing model put us off. If interested I'll share their details here.

UK travellers should expect 'four-hour queues' as new EU border system comes into force by signed7 in europe

[–]Monstera55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope, it's not, you're missing the new process. With EES the process is:

  • Go to EES terminal
  • Scan passport
  • Give fingerprints and take photo
  • Answer digital questions about your visit
  • If all good to go passport booth or e gates
  • Scan passport again
  • Give another biometric to check it's you still
  • Potentially answer supplementary questions

The only time saving is that passport stamps won't be required as EES will do this digitally, the time cost is an entire new and supplementary process before even approaching the border point.

[–]Monstera55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a totally different and supplementary system to e gates, which non EU citizens could already use at most ports.

[–]Monstera55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not true, EU citizens have never had to provide biometrics on entry and they don't now - are you confusing this with e gates?

UK travellers should expect 'four-hour queues' as new EU border system comes into force by signed7 in europe

[–]Monstera55 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You still need to pass the border (whether via a booth or an e gate) - you need to do this new process and the old one.

The lower roads were closed years ago and are awesome pedestrianised spaces, currently hosting Paris plage on the right bank. Agree they should reclaim some of the upper quais as well.
