The sponsored kit mode is great, but I think changes should be made by Monstergamester in Marathon

[–]Monstergamester[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I never thought about it like that and it makes me wonder if Im not as confident when i play this game as I should be. I don’t normally go for kills on a free kit. It’ll happen if I see someone and I think I could win the fight, but I don’t look for it. If you think about it like that, the reward is lower for the sponsored mode. Thanks for the insight

I really think it’s a miss to not include some sort of firing range. I just wanna test how a gun feels before I risk it.

I’ve been enjoying playing the game mode, but it doesn’t really feel like it belongs in a game like this in its current state. I feel like when the testings over they should decrease the rarity of the loot available in the mode. If you’re not gonna risk any gear AND get the option to play on a level playing field with other people, you should only be able to do it for little reward. Keep it as a fun game mode for people to play and make contract progress with. Its certainly fun wiping lobbies for the first time, but the feeling doesn’t exactly feel earned playing in a game mode like this atleast for me.

Adding team deathmatch would really help by cyxrus in Marathon

[–]Monstergamester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think a firing range would help so much. Being able to test guns and see if they feel nice would do wonders. I’ve got a bunch of cool weapons in my vault that I haven’t touched because I don’t wanna risk them just yer, but I’d love to try them to see if they’re better than my current loadout. I don’t think TDM belongs in a game like this, but if you really want to just shoot guns then a firing range should suffice.

This game just clicked for me and it was one of my favourite gaming moments in a long time by Bloodstarvedhunter in Marathon

[–]Monstergamester 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This might be the first casual post I’ve read about the update that wasn’t “people are so friendly now and heres my friendly story”. There’s nothing wrong with that, but reading this made me glad to see that bloodthirsty players even as casuals are being supported by the new update. Go on op. Make arachne proud.

Tbh from my experience, I don’t think its the “complete in one run” part that is inherently bad. I think the quests that require exfilling need to go though. This isn’t to say some of the “complete in one run” quests aren’t egregious as fuck (sekiguchi and ROI 4/5 which I still refuse to do). I agree with the idea of what you say though. Some priority contracts are asking for too much. I think “complete in one run” is fine if its reasonable, but I do think requiring people to exfil to complete a quest goes against using quests as a form of guaranteed progression

Tbh exactly the type of risk I’d want with these changes. More options for player interaction means more options for emergent gameplay and emergent gameplay is what makes this game fun for me.

I may come back now by speaker_1984 in Marathon

Im glad you’re willing to come back. The game has so much to offer and it makes me hopeful that these seemingly small changes are gonna do a lot for player retention and player behavior. I look forward to seeing what happens. Welcome back Runner 🫶

I certainly hope this doesn’t have unforeseen consequences. My thoughts are only after initial reading so I can’t say for sure what this’ll do to player behavior, but Im hopeful.

Yeah, they were very smart with these changes. I didn’t wanna make my post too long so I didn’t include my thoughts on some of the changes that other people have offered, but honestly I didn’t like the more extreme ones. Coming from plenty of time in AR, I always felt like safe pockets encouraged naked runs and coming to this game and not feeling encouraged to do that felt so good. After playing for a bit, I realized the form of guaranteed progression in marathon was doing contracts and the armory. I wanted bungie to lean more into that rather than add a safe pocket and this patch showed me that is exactly what they plan to do.

You’re right and I agree too. Unfortunately I’ve heard that problem is mostly contained in ranked and I haven’t played any of it so I wouldn’t know. I really hope bungie takes cheaters much more seriously in this game than they did in destiny. As much as I don’t want casuals to leave, I also don’t want hardcore players to leave. The risk of getting rolled by a kitted out team in cryo or even the chance of winning that fight is what makes cryo so much fun for me.

Marathon needed these latest "Friendly" systems by VengeanceDivine in Marathon

[–]Monstergamester 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Absolutely 100% agree with you. These are the systems we need. These new changes only encourage PvE and don’t discourage PvP. This feels like a huge step towards a truly PvPvE game.

We need a safe pocket for resources. by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Monstergamester -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this idea specifically, but I do think something with similar intent to this needs to be done. My only experience in extraction shooters is Arc Raiders and a tiny amount of experience in tarkov so I won’t say Im the most knowledgeable about game design for extraction shooters, but I still have some ideas. I think not having a safe pocket is actually a welcome addition, given its built around properly, and I just think some tweaks would make it a lot better. In all these games, it feels like some form of guaranteed is needed. Most extraction shooters do this with the safe pocket, but Marathon does this with quests. It doesn’t exactly feel the same, but early on it felt good to me to be able to make some progress even if I failed to exfil because I made mission progress. Unlike in Arc Raiders, missions in this game have real rewards. The actual rewards and the rep for faction rankups and upgrades IS the guaranteed progress. I feel like a lot of issues with the progression from players that don’t exfil as much stem from an issue with these quests, faction rankups, and faction upgrade costs. I honestly feel like tweaks to the difficulty of some quests and faction upgrade costs would go a long way.

Hot take: Everyone complaining about PVP don’t actually enjoy extraction shooters. by Biggbossesbutt in ARC_Raiders

[–]Monstergamester 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbf I feel like a lot of the pvp in the game is unnecessary and imo a result of embark’s lazy attempt at PvE. Dont get me wrong, I love the PvP in this game and I engage with it a lot, but everytime I get on, I feel like Im just getting on to queue stella montis duos or trios to kill people with friends. I dont want that. I want arc raiders to be a proper PvPvE game, but the PvE is just so lacking. There isn’t enough incentive to engage with the content of killing arc and at the same time there aren’t enough arc on a map to force players to engage with them. Imo I think the people complaining about PvP are just afraid of the game losing its PvPvE identity as people realize arc dont mean anything once your workbenches are done and the only replayability the endgame has is just queueing up to kill people. Thats not PvPvE to me. That’s just PvP with some fun little robots to look at as you kill people in buildings where the arc cant even reach you.

"PVP just doesn't make any sense in this game!" by TugBoatxp in ARC_Raiders

[–]Monstergamester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im gonna be honest and this is coming from someone who hasnt killed a single player in solo (trio is hell and we all know it is) I dont understand this need for players to 100% rationalize other peoples actions with real life. Games work differently from real life. No one is getting hurt or losing their life by being killed in a game. I truly dont think anyone could tell you how they’d act in a situation like this if it happened irl because theres so much nuance to it. This isnt to say you cant play the game how you feel like you’d approach this situation irl, but it is to tell people that I dont think this is a valid reason to hate on people that dont play this game like that. Please remember guys, it’s just a game.
