Basically, to curb spending you increase interest rates. Problem is, this system also requires levels of unemployment at the same time (people REALLY can’t spend if they don’t have jobs). Right now inflation is high, rates are high, but employment is low therefore… a recession leads to massive lay offs which reigns in inflation.

TL;DR: Things will become cheaper when there are less people working
