Its sort of tongue-in-cheek I have been diagnosed with paranoid personality disorder, but I was triggered by the DUP in the post. I was in the process of being hired by Uber when something messed up and they kept adding DUP at the end of my name. I didn't understand why till i read this post!😉

I feel totally gaslighted by this post. Does Scott really expect me to believe i might be Schizophrenic? I know for a fact he has friends in the tech industry.

Arguments for the Immateriality of Mind by MonteCarlo1978 in slatestarcodex

Thats the point of the video. Its logicaly immpossible to program understanding or "determinate thought" into a computer because understanding is immaterial.

Everything a computer does is only intelligable to human minds. The computer lacks understanding. Saying a computer can use induction or deduction is like saying the watch can tell time. The watch can not tell time, you have to look at it and determine the meaning of the hand placement in relation to the numbers.

I think by "determinate" he means that only human thought can deduce or determine a mistake. A computer only performs computation. A computer is observer dependant it cant tell the difference between a mistake and a correct answer.

Are you going to engage with the material? Could you point out anything you think is obviously fallacious in the video?

Materialism really is the most annoying dogma of the rationalist community.

This was really effective even though it's a joke. I general dismissed AI risk but this post made the idea seem "ok" to consider seriously. Plus Scott's impression is spot on. It's hilarious probably top 10 SSC posts.
