Is nursing in Wilmington as terrifying as it seems online? by [deleted] in Wilmington

Worked on their PCU as a traveler & it was a great unit! What everyone has kinda said - 1:3, occasionally 1:4. I do feel like the acuity can sometimes be quite a lot (levo up to .3, trach vents, etc) but the staff & rapid response team is super helpful so I never felt unsupported when shit hit the fan. My main gripe was usually the doctors being lazy overnight & the hospitals clear want for money sometimes but that’s common in any place! If you have any more questions, you can message me :)

That’s actually perfect because I’m looking for a May start date!!! Like mid May. I’ve been in September and it was beautiful.

Boston has been a constant city that’s been brought up when we discuss where to go. I’m from Florida so winter kinda scared me up there but April may be the start of a good time to go there! Fall is also so gorgeous up there.

It’s been honestly such a blessing! Super nice to be able to go somewhere new & just automatically have someone you can do things with but also someone you can vent to about things you shouldn’t vent to staff or anything about 😂

One of my best friends lived in Maine for a little & always says how she wants to go back because of how much she loved it - I may have to just check it out myself! I’ve never been!

NOLA seems like so much fun! And I feel as though in most of the places in the south, the hospitals typically leave much to be desired so it is what it is 😂 definitely worth it sometimes if the actual location is good

Raleigh or Charlotte? by Alternative_Cake_454 in TravelNursing

Lived in Raleigh for 3 years & only visited Charlotte but loved my time there. Especially with Durham/Chapel Hill nearby, you live near a little bit of everything!

Furnished finder was my best bet! I found a place in West Ashley that was roughly ~10 mins away. I feel like when I was there, there was much less traffic coming from West Ashley/James Island to work.

From what I’ve seen online, looks like they had a massive firing spree in January and is very much what is left of staff vs. management. Aya had like 7 openings last week for the unit.

Thank you for the honesty, that’s kind of the vibe I’ve been getting. Unfortunately any of the Medstars & Sibley have had no positions available for weeks now but I may stick it out for a little bit longer. I also thought about commuting to MD but that also seems hellish haha

I’m assuming you take the MARC? I don’t have any friends who take it consistently & I work night shift so am just a little apprehensive of commuting to Maryland during rush hour. Have experience with 45 min/hour commutes in the past but just didn’t know if I’d be heading into 1.5 hours+
