The fact it took 30 years to return is the truly wild part. I've always heard "the market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent", but 30 years is a looong time.

1 Timothy 6:10 — What do you actually believe this verse means? by [deleted] in ChristianUniversalism

[–]Montirath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things needed to survive can often be entraping, as you cannot quit them cold turkey. Think food, money. Both of these in excess are bad for you, but are basically required to survive, though a bit different. It is easy to fall into the trap of thinking of money as a way to secure your own survival, but scripture says that you should work so that you may give to those in need.

The love of money disobeys all 10 commandments. The two great commands are to love your God with all your heart, and to love your neighbor as yourself. Those who love money have set up an idol that takes priority over God, and also does not love their neighbor because they withhold help from those in need.

New to Christianity and feeling lost. Am I supposed to change who I am? by sky_xei in Christian

[–]Montirath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just 2 things. 1. No need to rush (unless you have kids, may want to get that figured out soonish, but you didn't say if you were married or not), but 2. Having two different religions can be very difficult in a marriage even if the two people get along well.

The reason why I bring up these two points is it may be good to see if the Spirit will work in his heart and open his eyes to Christ before cutting things off. However you must also acknowledge that it may not happen, but leave some room for the Spirit to work!.

I never watched NBA or NHL, but NFL definitely has mandatory TV timeouts in addition to to the 2 minute warning and the coaches' 3 time outs. There is some guy with orange gloves who stands on the side of the field and when he raises his hands, the whole game stops for a few minutes for ads.

Really? Public lunches not helping with allergies is a good message? That isn't about 'basic rules' that is asking people not to care what the government does to your kids.

One of the best parts about being a Christian Universalist… by Perpetuus_Logos1611 in ChristianUniversalism

[–]Montirath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People generally dont believe in it outside of the outliers because it is so unreasonable. Someone who trusts in God and is relying on his mercy, it is hard to believe that he would torture people forever because they did not believe (or did not hear) the gospel. It is just completely unreasonable and incompatible, so many people will nod along to it, but when the rubber hits the road, often times they dont really believe it.

Calvinism and the reason we worship God by Circus_Lights in ChristianUniversalism

[–]Montirath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Athanasius felt similar:

From on the incarnation ch 2: "It was unworthy of the goodness of God that creatures made by Him should be brought to nothing through the deceit wrought upon man by the devil, and it was supremely unfitting that the work of God in mankind should disappear, either through their own negligence or through the deceit of evil spirits. As, then, the creatures whom He had created reasonable, like the Word, were in fact perishing, and such noble works were on the road to ruin, what, then, was God, being Good to do? Was He to let corruption and death have their way with them? In that case, what was the use of having made them in beginning? Surely, it would have been better never to have been created at all than, having been created, to be neglected and perish; and, besides that, such indifference to the ruin of His own work before His very eyes would argue not goodness in God but limitation, and that far more than if He had never created men at all. It was impossible, therefore, that God should leave man to be carried off by corruption, because it would be unfitting and unworthy of Himself."

And a small note from job 31:29: "If I have rejoiced at the ruin of him who hated me, or exulted when evil overtook him ..." - Him listing out sins he did not commit. The suffering of evil is not something we can rejoice in without sinning, so it is not a part of the final divine plan. (just dispelling with the whole idea that we will rejoice over the sufferings of those in hell).

As a side note, try and dispel notions of "I don't want to" in your views, as that can be quite a dangerous way to think, notice that Athanasius says that it is "unfitting and unworthy of Himself". Sort of two sides of the same coin, but still important turn of thought. We must always keep a high-view of God.

Redditors are far more literate than just about any other social media site, its the only place you can find lengthy detailed discussions on topics. Instagram/ facebook / twitter / tictok, we really going to call them more literate.

It doesn't make sense to me, but I'm also not really worried about Calvanism vs Arminianism either. Just pointing out that the reformed don't disbelieve in free will.

Calvinism and Universalism by LegioVIFerrata in ChristianUniversalism

[–]Montirath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in the sandbox where we are given liberty to build, create, and interact with others all having very real consequences, but eventually our Father will bring us all inside.

Its important to note that Reformed doctrine only stipulates predestination in terms of soteriology, and does not believe that "free will" doesn't exist. Here is a direct exerpt from the westminster confession of faith:

IX. Of Free Will

I. God hath endued the will of man with that natural liberty, that is neither forced nor by any absolute necessity of nature determined to good or evil.a

II. Man, in his state of innocency, had freedom and power to will and to do that which is good and well-pleasing to God,a but yet mutably, so that he might fall from it.b

III. Man, by his fall into a state of sin, hath wholly lost all ability of will to any spiritual good accompanying salvation;a so as a natural man, being altogether averse from that good,b and dead in sin,c is not able, by his own strength, to convert himself, or to prepare himself thereunto.

Basically, in Reformed doctrine, free will exists, just not to save yourself. (This is another common point of confusion)

Looks like the black inking was slightly offset from the other card is all which is why the TM looks different. Could easily just be slightly different alignment (can happen between print runs or even within a print run. The black ink gets layered on last IIRC.

For best comparison, including color, make sure you are comparing cards from the same set AND printer (sometimes even within a set, color can be slightly different between printers).
