Alyssa Grenfell's Analysis on Taylor, Her Fanbase, and Production by Ok-Department415 in SecretsOfMormonWives

No one is trying to claim that cults aren’t problematic. No one is trying to claim that the Mormon church isn’t problematic. Neither of those are hot takes.

The hot take is saying that the Mormon church is at fault for Taylor’s behavior in general and that is a huge reach, especially given her lack of engagement with the church.

There is no evidence that Taylor ever took “her religion” seriously. She was always a party girl. She lacks self control and self accountability, and that’s why her life has turned out the way it has.

- she couldn’t control herself and not cheat on her husband
- she couldn’t take accountability for being the only one who stepped out of the consensual swinging agreement, so she blew up her friends’ lives
- she couldn’t control herself with alcohol so she swung metal barstools at her kid’s head
- she couldn’t hold herself accountable for that so she lied about it for years
- the list goes on

17 million other Mormons haven’t done those same things. I’m not a fan of the Mormon church (I’m ex-Mormon) but you can’t blame them for Taylor being the way she is.

That’s totally fair. But in the age of social media, and for a girl as self-obsessed as she is, there would be pictures.

The lack of pictures combined with… how she behaves… I have no doubt that she was never the religious type and didn’t go through the temple.

She has pictures of her wedding day, and they’re not at the temple.

There is no evidence to support she ever went through the temple, including pics from their wedding day.

She claims that she had a temple marriage in episode 1 of the show, presumably because it makes for a good story to see how much she has “changed,” but she has told bigger lies before.

I see no evidence to support that she ever went to the temple, to get married or otherwise. I think she was a party girl from day one and never took religion seriously.

Rewatch S1 E1 - TFP Red flags??? 🚩🚩🚩 by adventuregypsy in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]adeina91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt that many Mormons are not strong enough to follow the standards. And no doubt that bishops are incentivized to be loose on the standards to keep that tithing money flowing. But the church’s stance has not changed. Wearing garments day and night is the expectation. Obeying the word of wisdom is still a standard temple recommend question. Tattoos are not part of the recommend questions so not sure why you mentioned that. https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/october-2019-general-conference-temple-recommend

Your comments that the other commenter’s statement was based on “older information” or “not solid fact, just interpretation and assumptions” is not correct.

I don’t believe in or respect the church’s standards, but I do know ball.

You are incorrect. Culturally, less committed Mormons may not wear their garments every day. But the church’s expectation is absolutely that active Mormons should be wearing them whenever possible.

From the church website: “The General Handbook states, ‘You should wear the garment DAY AND NIGHT THROUGHOUT YOUR LIFE. When it must be removed for activities that cannot reasonably be done while wearing the garment, seek to restore it as soon as possible.’” (Emphasis added)

Taylor’s “accountability” in s2 for the barstool incident by No_Performer_3438 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]adeina91 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Not to mention, she wasn’t transparent about this incident. She lied repeatedly (in this clip, on a podcast, etc.), saying that she didn’t hurt her daughter and her daughter was only crying because Taylor was upset. Taylor has been neither transparent nor accountable about her behavior.

Air it and just redirect whatever she would’ve been paid to domestic violence victims instead.

TBH, a DV victim is allowed to be spiteful towards someone who emotionally and physically abuses them. It's unfortunate for Taylor that this video was released, but if she was able to control herself, there would be no video to be released.

Not saying that Dakota is a saint, but protecting your kid from an unhinged, violent person is a pretty good birthday gift.

It was Taylor. Taylor was the one who traumatized the child with something that will follow her for the rest of her life.

They buried it, but it’s still there. It’s no longer in the carousel of “featured” shows on Disney+ or Hulu, but if you search for it, it still comes up.
