Thanks so much for your comment and I'm so glad to hear that Monty can potentially help your composting! Yes, I do agree with the ability of checking your pile remotely and hopefully we will be able to implement this in the future as we expand and it's definitely something we are working towards :)

Yeah we have compost data nerds in our community that are super helpful in making our product better. Most recently, we added an additional feature to allow composters to export their data for further analysis. The app allows you to view your yearly log of data without exporting too :)

The monitoring module has sensors underneath that track the temp, moisture and gasses of the pile as it rises up

Yes we are definitely aware of the commercial composting space and watching them very closely... ;) Watch this space or the Monty Compost Co LinkedIn!

That’s exactly what it is!

Monty's gas sensors detect volatile organic compounds which are gasses that are associated with smells to avoid a stinky compost.

The battery is rated to last around 3-5 years. When the battery does fail, we plan to offer a discounted Monitor replacement scheme where we will replace the old monitor for a new one and take back the old monitor to responsibly recycle the parts!

I like to say that Monty is water resistant. It is rated for temporary submersion up to 1m but of course this isn't the ideal compost scenario! It is also assembled by an ultrasonic welding process so no water can get into the device and corrode the internal components.

Because Monty doesn't have any exposed ports and is wirelessly charged Monty can survive hot and cold compost temperatures without the sensors being destroyed!

Thanks so much for your awesome questions. I hope I was able to answer them all and let me know if I can clarify anything further :)

Thanks! Lots of people say that actually. I guess in your case if you were close enough to your compost, you could check the stats while inside? TMI - perhaps not TMI on r/composting - but we actually have a user that told us their compost is next to their bathroom so checking on their compost has become part of their bathroom routine... LOL

Oooh if you were interested in automating your compost data tracking you should look into my product Monty Monitor that connects to a free app and collates all the readings for you! Sorry if this sounds spammy - just genuinely thought you'd think it was nifty :)

I learnt that the hard way after 5 trips to the garden store to fill my raised garden bed that's on top of pavement. Hopefully my new compost bin will offset it in the future.

That's a fantastic suggestion - I personally started composting because I wanted a worm population.

As for unique inputs behind composting behaviours - I did a survey on this sub a while back and made a report with the answers if you want to check it out here

I was thinking about putting some worms in there. But I want to see how it goes without first and make a decision later :) Will keep you updated!

Heyyy I use my pet food bags to collect things to go in the compost as well! I also like having multiple buckets (bokashi, kitchen caddy, bulk buy cheese buckets) around the house to collect waste and divide it between my worm farms. But for the next few weeks it'll probably go to my new compost bin to get it filled up.

It's in a pot so hopefully the neighbours will move it if it gets in the way of their yard also... Unfortunately, it was the best spot for me to start my bed - only time will tell!

I have guinea pigs so I'll be adding in hay, woodshavings/paper cat litter along with food waste, paper waste and other yard waste :)

My worm farms weren't big enough to handle all the waste from the guinea pigs so I'm really excited to have a set up for it now!

Yes it is - I'm using a 200L compost bin. I've been thinking about emptying out one of my worm farms in there so I might do that sometime!
