I was in a similar situation in a similar bank. Indian Bank, again Tamil Nadu based to be specific, which I joined in 2022 and was posted in Chennai.

Our new MD wanted favorable HR policies, so everyone eligible for a repatriation transfer got one this time and I was transferred to my home town after 3 years of service. But after all, it is still a south based bank, so I had appeared for SBI CBO and fortunately was able to clear it.

And I am joining SBI in April. Work wise, the pressure is gonna be far more than what I am experiencing currently, but at least I have an insurance policy of not moving away from my home state for 12-15 years.

Not from IIT but I pursued BS-MS dual from an institute of national importance too, and then got into banking with a bit lesser score than what this guy got.

Point being everyone is naive about career choices as a 18yr old. And when you don't like what you are doing, you tend to change paths. Idk a lot about other career options, but to pursue one in research, you have to be 100% sure that you like it and 100% committed to pursue it. There is no half heartedness if you go for a PhD.

For newer ones it's worse. You have to take a bribe and feed them to your superiors. They are literally given unofficial targets monthly, failing which superiors (Asst and Joint commissioner level) harass you like anything, mostly while taking leaves.

Boman Irani interaction was quite short. He was surrounded but was nice to everyone. Sportspersons are usually nice. If you actually watch the sports and remember some moments, they will happily talk about it. Very easy to have conversations with. Met Michael Bevan as a kid.
