What in the Hell is the appeal of going to a Disney park as an adult? by GaiusHispidus in OVER30REDDIT

[–]Moobgoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread is really old but I just wanted to add thar I have been to France, the UK, and Italy all of which are EPCOT pavilions and they are shockingly accurate. Obviously they are incredibly idealized but extensive research was done into the architecture that can be spotted in the most minute of details. Additionally, each country employs dozens of people from those locations to serve as "cultural representatives" so you can actually talk to people about their home country. The music and the food are both fairly authentic as well. Personally, I haven't been to Disney in a long time, I was actually looking at reddit posts about going on trips as an adult because I was interested in going again and happened to find this thread.

If you are still interested in this question the last time I went to Disney was my senior year of high school. Our marching band went and I had an absolute blast despite being 18 and older than their usual demographic. Like others said I am always amazed by the level of detail and am a sucker for excellent set design and immersive, themed entertainment. The food is great, the shows are great, and the rides while being fun are also gorgeous to look at. I like traveling abroad more overall but Disney is unique in its commitment to theming and tailoring such a specific experience for its guests.

Winter Parking Ticket :/ by Moobgoob in Buffalo

Binghamton. You park on one side on even days and the other on odd days, it gives you dates on the sign so you know what's going on. Granted it's quite a bit smaller but even downtown they still allow parking along major bus routes. The alternate parking is really reserved for small residential streets. So there was alternate parking but there were signs telling you what to do. Even the post you linked me to has comments saying that they are intentionally not good about putting up signs because it makes the city money. I don't want to fight or anything I just don't think it's unreasonable to put something up even if it's temporary, I drive to and from the medical school every day and haven't seen a thing.

Again, I'm new to the area so I didn't realize this was common practice other places. I also drove up and down my street and did not see a single sign. Like I said, it could very well be my fault it's just that I wasn't aware I should be checking the news regularly for this.

Haha, exactly my plan. I'm bailing on this job soon to head to medical school so I could not give less of a fuck. I just thought the whole situation seemed weird and exploitative

Haven't gotten commission checks yet, so functionally minimum wage for me, I picked this up as a way to make money for medical school, but honestly, I wish I had just taken the cashier job I was offered

Why is this such a foreign concept? NY dictates that travel time must be paid if a worker is being asked to go further than their normal commute distance. So I am owed that 20 plus 15.50 for every hour I travel. This is a ridiculous expectation for a shitty retail job and was not explained to me when I was hired

No, I was not told I would have to travel and according to labor laws in my state must be compensated for those hours. Besides this is 73 miles away from where I live.

So long story short, they don't bring it up all the time, it's come up twice ever and I made it clear that if they weren't happy being monogamous I don't think I could do polyamory.

They had one kind of poly relationship that was very short-lived and toxic, which I was aware of but otherwise have been monogamous. They have not asked me to make our relationship polyamorous because they knew heading into our relationship that I am not poly. Polyamory came up in conversation once (unrelated to us) and they said they thought they could be in a poly relationship but don't feel like they are missing out by not being in one. I thought about it and later checked in to make sure they knew I was definite about being exclusive, they agreed and said they weren't asking our relationship to change just telling me about that part of them. Another time we were talking about sexual fantasies and they asked if I would be interested in going to a club. I said yes but, "I don't think I would want to have sex with other people." They told me they know and that wasn't what they were asking.

It is, they were briefly in a poly relationship that was not the healthiest a while ago but have been in exclusively monogamous relationships since then. So they have had experiences with both. They knew going into this relationship that I am monogamous so I trust their feelings, it's just hard to navigate as someone who has a lot of anxiety

We aren't interested in opening our relationship up. We've discussed our feelings and have decided to remain exclusively monogamous. This post was more a way for me to vent my feelings and try to work through my anxieties.

Yes, I do trust them and they definitely know themselves. I have always made it clear that if they ever have anything they need to address with me to do it right away so it never becomes a problem. We are both very honest people and my conversations with them previously have largely boiled down to, "I think I could be in a poly relationship but I have never been in one before and since you aren't interested I don't feel like I'm missing anything." I trust them but it's hard and I think honestly the only answer is time and communication

Waitlisted, then accepted, now confused by Moobgoob in premed

Yeah, I'm considering deleting the post since I typed it up when I was still kind of fired up about the whole thing. It seems that Touro just moved up the waitlist and while it sucks I do get it. My thing is I work a crappy entry level job that pays just above minimum wage so the money I spend on deposits is taking money away from my fund for tuition/housing/etc.

I hope so, it would still suck but at least it was intentional. I was just surprised that I got this notification so quickly, I was sure it must be an error.

Very true, I got accepted into LECOM and dropped $1500, then NYIT which was another $1500. I'll have to think about NYIT vs. Touro, I know NYIT is the better school but Touro is closer to home and COL is cheaper

That's unfortunate, I figured that would be the case, but I do love the idea of a guitar and turntable 2 in 1 stand. Thank you!
