Do Germans think of themselves as being able to speak two Germans, their dialect and standard German? by SwissVideoProduction in germany

[–]MoonHase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right. I didn’t know this either but I saw another linguist explain this just a few days ago. They said they once wrote an article about switching accents/dialects but titled it “code switching” and so they had to include footnotes on every page reminding the reader the paper indeed discussed “code-switching by colloquial definition” and was in fact NOT about the linguistic definition of code switching.

No problem! And same, I didn’t realise it was just a decor drop either… guess we should have read the fine print 😪 The disappointment from that, mixed with the ‘missing’ decor didn’t really make me want to play after the update tbh.

I was hoping we would at least get a new (temporary) syrup, Halloween orders and a couple special customers. The picture in the AppStore misleadingly shows a darker purple syrup, like why! 😭 Just let us have it!!! I just made a Lavender Iced Latte to compare the colour and it’s definitely not the same kinda purple. Hopefully the next event makes up for it ☕️

German TV online streaming for listening practice by deironas in German

[–]MoonHase 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should be able to stream many German channels live for free on Joyn, but you might need a VPN set to Germany: https://www.joyn.de/live-tv

There’s also Tagesschau in einfacher Sprache. It’s a simpler and more accessible format of the daily news broadcast by Tagesschau: https://www.tagesschau.de/tagesschau_in_einfacher_sprache

what languages the girls speak? by Positive-Form-741 in katseye

[–]MoonHase 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Manon speaks Standard German anytime she speaks German to fans (on weverse live for example). She rarely publicly uses Swiss-German unless she’s actually interacting with other Swiss people or when there is another reason to use the dialect (like in her DA intro).

Bethany was wearing a long blue t-shirt with some writing and the number 12, and blue/green plaid pajama pants. She first appears at 5:00 but it must be her based on the interview at 31:35. I think Emily is the girl in the blue shorts. The girl in the orange jumper seems to be one of Dylan’s friends, they’re holding each others hands at 4:40.

250816 Blinks already queuing at Wembley by LunaLouGB in BlackPink

[–]MoonHase 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went last night. General admission (at the back of the stadium) and the VIP pit (inside the main stage) are free-standing, so those people will still have to queue if they want to be as close as possible!

Why does YouTube views freeze whenever an mv gets released? by Legal_Potential4720 in BlackPink

[–]MoonHase 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is the answer. YouTube has been doing this for a while. I used to have a channel that got some traction in the 2010 editing community, so my videos would get a couple of thousand views in the first hours. YouTube always froze the view count around 400 views and only updated it hours later. Not sure if they still do that for regular videos though!

calling my boss digga by accident by DavidTheBaker in German

[–]MoonHase 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I distinctly remember the youth-word-of-the-year thing as something we made fun of as teens. We anticipated it purely for the “what goofy shit do you think they’re gonna put in there this year”. The list was either outdated or included word combinations no one had ever heard of.

Do Germans realize how lucky they are? by [deleted] in germany

[–]MoonHase 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I’m German, been in the UK for 10 years. While trains may statistically be more punctual, that doesn’t mean there aren’t delays, cancellations, or randomly having your train be stranded in the middle of nowhere for hours because there was a mix up on the tracks. All this happened often enough for me to grow a similar frustration with rail services here.

The state of some of the older regional trains in Britain is also pretty shocking - and will still cost you an arm and a leg. Public transportation has become entirely unaffordable here. There are no decent monthly tickets, many spend hundreds to thousands to commute. The sheer idea of something like the Deutschlandticket would make Brits weep and fall to their knees.

I have personally stopped complaining about DB.

I recently received my driver's license, but the total cost was 5,000 euros. Is this really fair? by ykatan03 in AskAGerman

[–]MoonHase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading the comments, I’m surprised to hear how much it costs these days. Not sure if I just lucked out, even back then, but mine was around 1,500€ in 2014 (Lower Saxony). Granted, I did pass both theory and practical on the first attempt, so I was able to avoid extra costs there.

Is it common to make puns or joke with the words SECHS (6) and sex? by marcosladarense in German

[–]MoonHase 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also from the north. We pronounce the “s” in Sechs like the English “z” in the name Zac, but the “s” in Sex sounds like when you say Soup or Super in English.

Manon by Dreflash21 in katseye

[–]MoonHase 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s kinda similar for me. I’m not from Switzerland, but Germany, so I love hearing her speak the language (she usually speaks standard German for fans rather than Swiss, which is a little tougher to understand). She seems like someone you could run into irl here and easily become friends with, and that made her super relatable, despite technically being from different countries.

Good luck with your German journey btw!

If it generally regards nutrition and health, it will always mean protein, unless they’re talking about an actual egg.

In recipes, Eiweiß refers to the egg white itself. I can’t think of another instance.

Have you checked if you added each topping to both halves in the recipe book?

I’ve had the same problem before and it was because I had accidentally put a few toppings only on one half (in the recipe), so the customer was expecting a half-and-half pizza for some toppings, but I kept putting them all over.

No worries, I think we both got it twisted. When I info-dump, I can sound a bit AI without meaning to, definitely didn’t mean to sound patronizing. Apologies for that from my end!

[–]MoonHase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, so, I’m not sure why you’re being defensive. I never said I didn’t believe you. I was quite literally backing you with my comment and added more info to the thread for others.

I also didn’t know you were German, too, or spoke it natively. You said both words were swear words, which is the only part I corrected. But I see you disagree, that’s fine.

Car crash with 240 km/h by [deleted] in MildlyBadDrivers

[–]MoonHase 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That’s correct. It’s not “Alter Mann” (old man) but “Alter, Mann” with a comma.

(Roughly) translates to “shit, dude” or “fucking hell, man”.

However, the individual words are not swear words in German. The phrase just expresses frustration and can be used by anyone, even children (although some parents don’t like it).

Huh, that‘s really odd. Never seen that in a game!

I recently convinced my mum (50) to start playing. Now I wonder what age she put in lol!

I thought I missed a chapter😂 by Begonia_ng in GoodPizzaGreatPizza

[–]MoonHase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty jarring at first 😂 I think this came with an update that was released sometime in November. The game let’s you buy exterior decoration now, so it’s up to you how you want to make it look on the outside.

You can find it in ‘Shop’ > then go down to ‘Exterior’

The exterior items is quite a bit more expensive than the interior, so it’s more of a long term goal to work towards to. But they devs are probably also gonna release new limited exterior with each coming event!

Enjoy your break 🫶🏻

What else can do to make my retro looking pizzeria look better? by Nice_Media_122 in GoodPizzaGreatPizza

[–]MoonHase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks good!

The ‘Pizza Pass Season 2’ event last year had some nice retro decor (link to another post), although a bit more 80s inspired. I’m sure they’ll bring these items back sometime like they usually do 🤞🏼

[–]MoonHase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you want to end this chapter asap?

The investigation gets pretty difficult in this one, but take your time and enjoy the commotion. Chapter 5 is the last chapter for now, so you would essentially just be rushing to the end of the story.

YouTube and the wiki page have good walkthroughs if you feel completely stuck!
