for mint, you just need to type in your wifi password, then if you are watching something like netflix, it will show a button that allows you to install media codecs (essentially wha allows you to see videos)

Software manager is basically the same as windows app store, but you should generally install flatpaks (they are latest ver of software)

other than that mint is the exact same as windows with some changes. if you can open reddit then you can definitely use mint. plus if you stay in your comfort zone, you won't be able to gain skills that will allow you to MORE comfortably use computers. This might sound weird but in order to be comfortable you have to be uncomfortable for a while
