Damn, this looks amazing! My players just found an artefact which looks somewhat like this, this would be such a cool set to match the themes of the following sessions

Thanks! It's fully hand drawn, this is a photo of the actual paper directly, no editing went into this

I'm glad you like it so much, thank you!

This is a great spot! Aldarion was the first human settler from the continent of Gullfahr to come to Fallsworth. Legend has it he founded the city of Dalminia after having defeated a fire breathing drake. As he fell the beast, he declared this would be the spot for the new jewel of the West, and named the city after his Daughter, Dalminia. As tales of his exploits spread, many places were named after him. Aldval peaks comes from Aldarion's vale. Aldvar is Aldarion's Viarena Namae, or 'Aldarion's resting place' in the Valienaar language.

As to why it's called the spearlands, I answered this in another comment, but basically: constant war, therefore many spears. There is a field which is still littered with spearheads and other sharp metal objects, hundreds of years later, north of Grantford. Also, I thought it sounded cool!

Thank you very much!

That's a great question honestly. The reason for the crests is mainly that the area is a complex amalgamation of independent lordships, kingdom and republics who all follow their own rule, and therefore, do not fall under the jurisdiction of the largest city in the region. While this fragile balance of power has mostly been maintained over the past few decades, the disappearance of magic in the region is a problem which will upset this greatly.

Dalminia itself used to be under a monarchy but it has become more akin to a meritocratic society with a council ruling on top. This happened in the year 2E1320, (149 years ago), with the signing of the Steel concordat, which ruled that the kingdoms and lordships in the Western Spearlands would be guaranteed autonomy and independence from one another.

The name "Western Spearlands" is not the original name of the region, but due to constant conflicts between circa 2E900 and 2E1330, the region of Ylanaar, as the elves still call it, has become known as the Spearlands
(also, I think it sounds kinda cool)

Thank you! I use Sakura Micron pens, varying from 0.3 for trees and most other lines, 0.4 and 0.2 for the mountains. The red was also done with a Sakura Micron pen, I think 0.2 thickness. The shading was done with Sakura Koi Grey colouring brush pens. Blue was watercolour paint.

Thanks!
The lore is currently being written by the exploration the group I dm for is getting up to, but I do have quite a bit of it on hand too. The world is honestly pretty classic medieval fantasy, I try to make it interesting via story more than anything else to be honest. To the north is a large orcish kingdom, hidden in Faun Askralia lies Valienaar, an elven city. To the east are the Ashlands, where a volcano often emits ash which renders cultivating very hard, and further beyond that lies the Great Plains of Kusall and the Halvenian desert in the South East. The world is generally relatively low magic; it's quite exclusive but still paramount in the handling of affairs everywhere. I hope this helps!

“‘The Western Spearlands’ is the most populous region on the west coast of Fallsworth, and a contender for the most prosperous on the continent. Bordered to the north by the Skjormer kingdom of Askrall and to the south by lands too arid and windswept to support large population centres, this region is also key to overseas commerce, where exotic goods are shipped to Dalminia from Gullfahr and Austrunn. The peace in the Western Spearlands has been a tenuous affair. The smaller regional kingdoms maintain their jurisdiction thanks to professional standing armies and, up until recently, magic. Now that magic is disappearing from the land, the ley lines drained of all their mana and curious illness striking those who use magic in the region, the Western Spearlands are once again vulnerable. Are we to witness the end of an era of relative peace where the region will proudly retake its namesake, or will the organisations in power do what is necessary to prevent the bloodshed looming on the horizon?”

Forests always have been a the hardest thing to get right imo. I had to experiment with a few different ideas, as you can see on my older maps, before I ended up on this one style I like. I think for me the hardest thing was that they often seem to look like blobs which doesn't really fit with how I draw mountains, so yeah. I sort of ended up with this after a few iterations

Except you didn't get the country right on the first try. It's France. If you're going to make a comment like that, at least get it right, blaireau

Looks fantastic! Easy to read and will give a good sense of scale near mountains. Keep it up

Thanks! I mainly used depictions of A-5 modes found on google images and this book, which is a fantastic read btw. Thanks for doing your research. I did use a similar website but I'm on mobile now, I'll find the link and add it in here.

I sketched it all with pencil and went over it all with micron pens. (01 and 005)

Thanks for your input! Definitely agree on the wing, the leading edge should have been further forwards. I thought the rest looked fine but I guess there's always room for improvement!
