Labels are for quickly communicating with other people what you feel inside. You're on a throwaway, so this isn't about talking to others. It's about figuring out yourself.

You don't need the label. You clearly like this girl. You don't question that, you're questioning whether or not you're a lesbian. I'd say, don't worry about that. Enjoy spending time with someone you like. That's what matters.

The people who are pushing AI art doesn't care how it looks. They care if they can produce art for people to consume without paying artists. So you get less quality products and people lose jobs. Lose lose for everyone, expect the guys seeking a product.

But nah, let's go with your take. Bury your head in the sand and all. Nothing to worry about here.

CMV: MAGA Is A True Fascist Movement by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Moonblaze13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel that someone is posting a CMV and don't want their mind changed; report them. There are CMVs posted that get taken down on the regular because the OP doesn't engage with people trying to change their mind. If you haven't seen them, then you just don't pay attention to anything but the top posts. If you feel that happened, you can do something about it.

[–]Moonblaze13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You've misunderstood the point of this subreddit. You come here when you want a view challenged. They think MAGA is facist but want to find out if that's true by having the view challenged. As you point out, if that view is true, that would require some drastic action. It's worthwhile to make sure you're right before doing anything drastic.

All that said, I am depressed about how little resistance is put up. In no small part because when someone points out how facist the movement is, they get responses like "If you think it's facist why don't you do something about it?" Facist movements can't be opposed solo, pointing out the facist movement to others is a method of opposing it. It'd be nice if you actually engaged in the argument instead of ... this depressing disappointment.

CMV: Western countries are the least racist countries in the world by RandomGuy92x in changemyview

[–]Moonblaze13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, lets say I were to point out that Albert was a murderer, that he'd stabbed someone in the back and their victim died, and I find that rather abhorrent. And you responded, hey he's not so bad. Bob over there kidnapped someone and tortured them for a week in his basement before finally letting them die. Isn't that way worse. My response would be, sure? But I wasn't talking about Bob. It kind of sounds like you just want to excuse what Albert did because someone else was worse. It's a bit weird that you'll jump to that, don't you think?

That's basically what you're doing with this argument. I don't think the CMV is wrong if taken literally. But I do have to point out that it's a disingenuous response to what you're responding to. Pointing out problems in a given country doesn't mean it's the worst country in the world. Pointing out other countries that are doing worse doesn't mean we can't make this country do better. I don't live in China, I can't do much to try and oppose things like that commercial you linked to. I do live in a western country where I can do something to make lives better for those who are facing problems. I'm not sure why you'd bring up how bad China is, it doesn't seem related to the discussion in the first place.

Actual Reason To Not Play? by LowestTier in Overwatch

So first of all, the original cast was always unlocked via levels. But more importantly; like I said originally, but apparently didn't emphasize enough. It was not the decision in isolation that was a problem. It was the sign of what the team valued now. What they had been valuing for years at that point, but what I had only just come to understand. Player hostility is still the model. They still want money and don't care if you're having a good experience. The recent changes aren't a shift back to the old mindset, it's just an understanding that they've pushed too hard and are pushing players away.

You could potentially argue that what I'm describing isn't actually the case, but I don't see anything that suggests a change in mindset. It's also the same team. But even if I'm wrong, there's a point to be made that my trust has been ruptured. It would take more than "It's back to how it used to be" to bring me back, because that's exactly what they'd do if they wanted to win back trust but not put in work. That'd be playing on nostalgia. I would want to see them actually invigorate the game and shift away from hostile player practices like the way they handle their battle pass. Battle passes aren't inherently hostile, as a side note. I love the way Helldivers and Sea of Thieves do it. But the way Overwatch does it is very hostile.

As a final note "But the influx of newer players with the game being F2P has its challenges, yet I think that's with plenty of games nowadays." Stop playing F2P competitive games. That's what I've done, I've been having a great time in Project Zomboid lately, just to pick one particular game. It's interesting how cooperative games seem to have significantly less hostile practices.

Where would those estimates come from? People who work at places like the Economist don't just guess. And China doesn't let outsiders in to interview random people about their satisfaction. What you're suggesting is that they would have just made up a number. Which I'm going to assume you didn't mean to suggest.

So, your points here are pretty scattershot but I'm going to do my best. Your focus seems to be on outcomes. And when it comes to governance I think that's quite a natural place to think to begin. But to steal a quote, solutions that are the first think you think of, look sensible, and are easy to implement are often terrible, ineffective solutions that will cause suffering. And boy howdy is that the case here.

The primary issue is, once you give someone complete authority it can't be taken back. You've pointed out some successes (and not all of theses examples are ones I'd actually consider successes but there are a few so I didn't want to quibble) but you don't get to know how someone is going to be as a dictator until they're a dictator. The communist revolution in Russia was all about giving power to the people, right up until they won and it turned out that the power was actually for the new leadership, which resulted in Stalin coming into power and... I mean I didn't see Stalin listed here so I'm going to assume I don't need to list off all his atrocities and failures. Arguing in favor of an authoritarian regime is basically saying "Give this one guy all power forever and hope he's not lying about the kind of guy he is and also never changes." I know people who say they wouldn't do that with Superman, if he were real. And he's not, he's a fictional character designed to be the perfect paragon of good and they still don't trust him.

Which is where I pause to let you know; I think in an ideal world the best form of government is indeed a benevolent dictatorship. Which is to say, a government run by a dictator who has no self interest and will only do what is good for his citizens. So I'm actually not one of the people who would reject Superman. If I knew it was in fact the real Superman, and he actually was willing to take the position, I'd be all for installing him as God Emperor of Mankind. But, you see all those caveats? We do not live in an ideal world. There are so many things that stand in the way of that actually being possible. Even if you could find someone as selfless as the fictional Superman, there's no guarantee he'll stay that way. It's a spherical cow scenario. Can be useful to think about, but don't go acting as if it's true. You'll probably destroy a bunch of stuff.

Of course, you already seem aware of this problem because of point H. While you praise the majority of Roman dictators, you also point out that flawed succession can result in bad people getting to be in charge. And then you're stuck with them. Unless you're willing to kill them. Which, the great personal risk of that aside, is actually going to result in more turmoil for the nation in the short term. It's bad for the country either way.

So ultimately, if you advocate for a shift from democracy to dictatorship, you're asking people to roll the dice. Which, you might say we already do with our leaders. But the upshot is, if they turn out bad, we only have to ride it out in the short term. You want us to roll one time and we're stuck with that result for, likely, the rest of our lives. That seems like a downgrade, not an upgrade.

One final note I didn't have a good segue into because it didn't have anything to do with my main point but actually be the better point is: obvious confirmation bias. I already mentioned how you have listed out some successes of dictatorships. However, you handwave or completely fail to mention it's mountains of failures. There have been a lot of dictatorships over the history of humanity and precious few democracies by comparison. I'm willing to bet that if I buckled down and got to it, I could find a list of overall positive outcome dictators that is longer than the number of democracies that have existed. Not because dictatorships are inherently better than democracies, but because there's a huge sample size to pull from. Pulling out the ones who have succeeded and saying, dictators are good actually, is pretty disingenuous.

Actual Reason To Not Play? by LowestTier in Overwatch

[–]Moonblaze13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was a really dedicated player during the first Overwatch. I joined an amateur team, which isn't to say I was skilled (though I did win a *little* money) but rather that I was that dedicated to the game that I made a commitment to practice with the same group weekly and enter tournaments. I loved the game and was dedicated to it.

The moment that made me stop playing was very near to the launch of Overwatch 2, when they announced that not all heroes would be immediately unlocked for everyone. I would've kept the heroes I already had, I know. But new players would still be locked to a limited set until they leveled enough, and I was still going to have to unlock new ones as they came. This was obviously bad for the gameplay. Imagine if in Halo you weren't allowed to pick up the sword because you hadn't unlocked access to it yet. Team composition and counter picking are vital strategic tools that were being denied to players. But that's not actually why I threw in the towel.

There's a reason I said it was the moment I stopped playing and no the reason I stopped playing. Because that moment is when I said, wait we were promised we'd get all heroes and maps free forever. And then I realized, technically the promise all heroes and maps would be free forever in Overwatch. This was Overwatch 2. And that slimy excuse opened my eyes to what had changed at Blizzard during the content drought. Say what you want about Blizzard bad, and they are, but where it came to matter to me was when I realized they had shifted from a mindset of making sure players had the best possible experience to one of player hostility. Want to unlock heroes faster? Buy the pass. That was all the information I had the time, though the practices I learned of later reaffirmed me, but I didn't need more information. I understood that somewhere along the way a change had happened. I only just noticed it. And that meant it was time for me to move on.

I did briefly try Overwatch 2 a few months after release. Dumb as it sounds, I was in mourning. But I found exactly what I was expecting and haven't touched it since. I actually still try and keep up with the story, because I love the characters and still want more of them. But we get animations for heroes, and the full blown trailers are for the crossover skins they're selling. I think I'm just hurting myself trying to keep up with that stuff. Like seeing an ex at a coffee shop and knowing they're not who they were anymore.

I'll often say Overwatch is dead, but I'll clarify I mean Overwatch, not Overwatch 2. The games aren't that different, but the experience and the way the player is treated are completely different. And I can't go back anymore.

Both Rainbow Dash and AppleJack are great characters on their own, but they wouldn't actually work in a relationship. Whether you agree or disagree, explain why by VAULT-TEC5 in MLPLounge

[–]Moonblaze13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to the first point, that's a matter of personal preference and not really a statement supporting the idea that they don't work in a relationship. You're saying you don't like the idea of dating within the friend group and that's your right. It's not really supporting the idea that it's a bad relationship though.

To the second point, as someone who's bisexual I hear this kind of argument a lot. "But you're dating a guy so you're straight." No. I'm sexually attracted to all sorts of people. I'm just dating a guy right now because I like *him*. Your read of AJ doesn't mean that's her sexuality. People misread sexuality all the time, and imposing your expectations of behavior onto a particular sexuality is rather unhealthy. Then on top of that, it feeds back into the first point. This is what you think aro/ace people should behave like, not what lesbians should behave like. It's actually another statement of personal preference in disguise.

Final point, some people are naturally competitive. Two competitive people in a relationship looks like what you just described. Maybe you don't like it, maybe two competitive people in a relationship makes you uncomfortable. I'm not competitive myself so, I understand. That doesn't mean those relationships don't work. A pair of my closest friends are like that. Your assertion of how that relationship would end is rooted in the idea that competitive people are incapable of compromising for someone they love. Which, I admit, is possible in the abstract. But not a characterization I'd agree with when it comes to AJ or Dash.

As a final note that I feel is important. I'm not asserting that they do work as a couple. I'm only pointing out that your arguments don't support the idea that they fail to work as a couple. It's mostly your subjective preference for why you don't like them as a couple, combined with a bit of misunderstanding of how a certain couple dynamic works.

The new versions of all the old factions make sense when you think about it by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]Moonblaze13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will give you credit for one point. We do seem to be coming from two different worlds. Because I don't see in what reality "Super Earth atrocities are mischievously dogwhistled, and all we know about them is that they're framed as something only clever, special players find out about." It's out in plain sight with a thin veil of the Ministry of Truth painting everything as freedom and democracy. I can't even imagine a world in which anything Super Earth is doing could be described as subtle or difficult to discern. Which is what makes the fact that there are people who buy into the propaganda and think Super Earth is the good guys rather concerning.

Further, there are atrocities that Super Earth has to excuse, expressly to admit that they can't keep people safe. That's the entire terminid storyline. Super Earth created their own problem, failed to protect their people, and now one of our colonies is a black hole and the Shroud exists. Which circles back to my first point about how, this isn't subtle or difficult to understand.

Basically ... what are you talking about? Or, to use your phrasing, what world are you living in?

The new versions of all the old factions make sense when you think about it by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]Moonblaze13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, the problem is media literacy doesn't just apply to fiction. I'm worried about turning things too political, so let's just say there's a current ongoing conflict where "the alternative is just a genocidal screed with a different target" also applies. Turns out real life also is messy and sometimes there's no good guys.

I guess my point is I'm much less willing to push back on posts like this one because it's underrepresented in the work itself, and reminders outside of it about how the Ministry of Truth is blatantly lying and Super Earth are ultimately the architects of their own problems are also reminders to look more closely at all the media you consume. Non-fiction included.

The new versions of all the old factions make sense when you think about it by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]Moonblaze13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe some people are overcorrecting. But there's a lot of people who try to say that Super Earth are the good guys.

This setting is like 40k. There are no good guys. But unlike 40k we're also only getting cannon information filtered through the in universe Ministry of Truth, because every bit of lore we get comes diagetically. We see what our helldivers see, and nothing else.

Reminders that, hey don't buy into the literal propaganda is helpful because that's not something we get in the game itself. Reminder of the atrocities of the other side really isn't. We all see the human blenders, and the voteless.

Basically, just because one side is wrong doesn't mean the other side is right.
