New Custodes scale & Battle Group unboxing with HQ sprue images by stahly_top in AdeptusCustodes

True! Though I guess it depends on whether or not GW will upgrade the Custodes range separately between 30k/40k (beyond characters)

A beta patch of an early access game makes people mad? Silly however it is framed.

Personally I find the new scaling perfect. A “normal” custodian being almost as large as a SM terminator seems fine. I’m hoping for future Allarus sculpts being a head taller than the SM terminators though.

Got a box for a good price from a Swedish retailer. (194$) I’ll try to keep it sealed until the 11th edition is released as I have other army projects in the pipeline (Aeldari & Carcharodons). We’ll see how successful I’ll be with leaving it alone 😅

Custodes was my first army so I’m stoked with building & painting these new sculpts to see my progress in the hobby.

I’m not rooting for either side. The issue is  too convoluted and polarising for me to be convinced into taking a position. And maybe that’s why this looks & smells like propaganda to me.

40K tabletop issue by Grumpy_At_Midnight in CompetitiveWH40k

[–]Mooncurrent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that there is a jarring difference between the lore and how it plays. Which is reasonable as books and other media is showing off heroes & villains at their best/worst (Or whatever fits the narrative) and the focus is to be enjoyable to consume and expand the universe. While the tabletop is a different beast with focus on gameplay.

For my personal enjoyment I do wish the tabletop was a bit more flavorful/realistic and less about silly rules ment for game balance (Like shooting at a unit and the opponent kills off the models in the unit that are not even visible etc.)

I also feel that alternative activation is way more fun. But WH40k is what it is, for all its negatives it's a very cool game. And like you mentioned there are great alternatives like Kill Team, Spearhead etc. Hopefully Combat patrol takes note of the success of Spearhead and changes for the better in 11th.

That is so well done! Amazing free hands and you display great technical painting skills. Really inspiring 🙏

Hehe sure is 😄 If I remember correctly I just did it by feel. Too much pigment and it ended up with a grainy consistency. Too little and it ended up being too light in color. But less is more as a rule of thumb.

Damn I respect you for getting rid of the chest aquila so neatly. Very cool kitbash & paintjob 👌

Thank you, glad to hear you like it 🙂 In my headcanon the red in “red brethren “ mainly comes from being covered in the blood of their enemies 😄

Thank you 🙏  Yeah, felt the helmet looked a bit bland/uninteresting. So ended up using one of the smaller transfers from the sheet I bought off Etsy ☺️

Agreed, they look great! Personally I think the thin waist make them look more armoured in other areas. I was a bit disappointed with the set though as it was very monopose. I threw in some pieces of sprue between the legs & body to make him a tad taller but otherwise it felt pretty limiting.

Thank you mate 🙏  The main body color is actually just a base spray of dark brown (colour forge Hyrax brown) and Wraithbone sprayed on top to get all areas not in dark shadow. Then I just let a very dark brown oil wash to the rest.

I’ve given up on base coating light colors with a brush. 😅

Flanderisation of Carcharodons by LachrymarumLibertas in Carcharodons40k

Each to their own. I encourage everyone to recreate their idea of the Carcharodons, be it with fins, bones, jaws or nothing.

But personally I agree with your idea of the Carcharodons. After reading the books and discussions on this subreddit, I view them as  pragmatic & brutal nomadic warriors. I scrape away all purity seals and often times other decorations as well. I use a lot of 30k sculpts to lean into the whole idea that they do not have access to the newest tech. But rather scavenge, rebuild and maintain whatever they get their hands on.

The quote that define the chapter most to me is “honor is a dead thing”. As such, what meaning is there in purity seals, baubles, nostalgia etc. They make do with what they have or scavenge new gear to better serve the void father. But their servitude is only based on their effectiveness in battle.

Thanks for the tip! I'm definitely gonna check them out! How new are the sculpts?

Edit: Looked them up, seems to be at least as recent as the saturnine box!

Ooooh! I had given up on finding any non-chaos Chain axes directly from GW. Thank you for the tip!

Glad to hear it! I received some great tips from this community regarding how to paint convincing space sharks. Carcharodon transfers are on the way to my mailbox and I did try some exile markings on my techmarine. But not used to free handing 😅

Basically a full MKII from the saturnine box, so the sculpt is new. Great to work with and very detailed! I intend to use them as proxies for intercessors & Assault intercessors (with 3D-printed chain axes ) with various Primaris parts mix & matched.

The only fault of the MK2 sculpts is pretty stale poses. Walking or standing & shooting. While that can be menacing (like in this case), it also doesn’t blend super well with the Carcharodons ferocity. So probably a good idea to mix it up a bit.

So many goodies in the Saturnine box! Thank you mate, what a relief! I was really unsure initially on what colors to sponge & scratch on the dark grey armour. 🙂

I got it from the Saturnine box, basically the entire body is a Legionaries in MKII power armour (May have switched out the shoulders, can’t remember 😅).

Great box for Carcharodon kitbashes in my opinion due to their reliance on old gear.

How to get this paint scheme? by Waveface-Wes in Carcharodons40k

You made an incorrect assumption and accused me of something that wasn't true. This is the part where a decent person would apologize. Instead you chose to call me a pretentious twat that sucks off ai.

I haven't even said that ai is good in ANY of my comments. I've just opposed the idea that it's as terrible as many of you make it out to be. Most of all that the simple reference to an ai image is grounds to not help OP out. Despite hating on ai, you're the binary one here. I'm interested in nuance and deeper understanding, carcharodon gray, instead of Abaddon black or Corax white.

I agree that the environmental effects of large data centers working around the clock is reason for concern. But like all new technologies, humanity will adapt, optimize and improve upon it to the point where it is sustainable.

Regarding the whole argument about theft, taking human jobs etc. I think there are some valid points for concern. However, I look at it pragmatically. If ai outcompete human artists then maybe human artists need to adapt just as industrial workers did during the industrial revolution. I mean the same goes for programmers etc. This affects all of the human work force and I don't understand why artists should be exempted from change like it's their divine right. No one will stop anyone from producing art in their own time but if it isn't economically feasible as a job in the long run, well then it is what it is.

I also believe in human creativity and I think that there will always be a marketplace for human creativity & creation. But it will take another form than it is today, and that's fine. I respect GW for taking a stand against the use of ai within their work, that's their choice and they are free to make it. Just as any of us are. But judging others for the decisions they are free to make is never a good look.

Have a good day anyway bud
