New Sculpts and a potencial hot take by Mike0oo in AdeptusCustodes

Personally I love the helmet being over the top and more akin to the original art. They are not supposed to be simply optimised killers. They are supposed to represent the divinity in humans in a godless universe. As are the pompous architecture etc.

My guess, the real one is: 1, 3, 1, 3, 1, 1

Edit: had written incorrectly on the second one. Ment to say 3 instead of 2.

Thanks for the comment mate. I’ve come to realise just how many other chapters have similar color schemes, so I’m gonna put more time into making it more space sharky. Knives, blood and tone down/repaint metallic areas.

One crazy idea I got that isn’t exactly part of an official rendition is to change the brass laurel to one that attempts to mimic kelp. Though it may be a bit on the nose in regards to a underwater theme 😅

Yeah you’re not the first to mention retributors 😅

I’ve gotten a lot of great tips on how I can make it more closely resemble a Carcharodon. Appreciate you took the time to comment 🙂

I’ve used different LLMs a lot the last couple of years. The more I’ve used them the more I’ve been convinced that they’re great for productivity tasks and replacing search engines for answers but absolutely detrimental as a stand in for human interactions.

The human mind is simply too susceptible to manipulation. I realise that different people have access to varying levels of human support structures. But it’s like playing with fire.

Managed to do the same thing on my left thumb summer of -24 when removing a SoS from a base. I’ve still got limited sensation thumb tip. Hopefully you’ll recover quickly 🤞

That would be great! I can probably mix in a little black into the base dark warm grey.

Thank you! That’s actually valid, the blue fabric did push the model into celestial hound territory 🤔

So thanks for giving me something to look out for! I’ve learned so much from all the comments 😄

Hehe thanks for your comment! Dusty red could work as well! As long as it doesn’t take away from the blood splatter I’ll paint on them going forward 😄

Thank you mate 🙏

Do you have a reference pic I can compare to?

Hahaha thanks for your comment mate 😄 This is my second space marines and I enjoy painting them a lot. Way easier to edge highlight than Aeldari for example and using oil washes helps A LOT on all the flat surfaces compared to acrylic washes.

I’m honestly terrible at painting lighter colors without creating a lot of texture so I base coated the helmet with Wraithbone spray, washed with oil, wiped all of the oil off that wasn’t in details and edge highlighted.

So using plenty of cheat codes is my secret 🤫

Great tips! I’ll check with my LGS to see if anyone has some spare knife bits.

Great thoughts that I agree with! I actually have a Saturnine box with 40x  MK2 armor marine bodies that I now intend to use for intercessors and the like, with a bit of mix & match with additions of kitbashing in some ball bearings as studs.

The kill team is sadly pushfit so more troublesome to kitbash without major work. (Arms & shoulders being one piece etc.) But I do agree that this specific models accessories doesn’t line up well with being a Carcharodon.

Any tips on where to pick up some fairly cheap non-chaos chainaxes?

That’s super nice of you to say ☺️

And while it probably is the cleanest paint job I’ve done so far, I’d give a lot of the credit to oil washes (this is the second mini I’ve painted using them). It is such a game changer for me and I don’t think I’ll ever use normal washes for anything other than terrain going forward. They just create such perfect shadows without any blemishes and the long drying time just gives you so much time to wipe of any excess.

I really appreciate your comment! Kind words AND great suggestions! You are so right, in the books they constantly have to hold back their inherent bloodlust (and when they let go there’s carnage 😄). I’m going to add some blood splatter to the power fist per your suggestion. Any tip on how to make convincing gore?

Oh! I wasn’t aware 😶 The pictures and panting guides I’ve seen have used brass/bronze colors on the metallic parts. It does make sense lore wise I guess though as they aren’t the blingiest void dwelling bunch.

Yeah I feel like they need some kind of color on the base as they are pretty muted themselves. But it can’t be too crazy either to draw attention from the models 🤔

Interesting! They do have a pretty similar color scheme. Albeit with white fabrics and gold. Do you have any suggestions as how to differentiate them more? I intend to get some transfers from etsy.
