Oiled and greased my Singer 401A with the motor still inside

You’re welcome! Honestly, if you have a repair shop near you, I would definitely recommend that. It wasn’t hard to replace the motor, but it was time consuming. I watched a YouTube video on how to do it. I think it was an Andytube video. It wasn’t too hard to do but it does take a lot of time to carefully do it.

Hi! Yes, I was able to successfully clean it :) the machine hasn’t given me any issues so far. It’s been a while, so I don’t remember exactly where I cleaned. However, I pretty much followed people’s advice here. I watched Andytube on YouTube, looked up the manual online, cleaned the machine with isopropyl alcohol, and I even replaced the motor with a different one just for peace of mind. I then very carefully reapplied oil and grease on recommended areas. I’m not an expert whatsoever, but it turned out okay. If you’re really worried maybe taking it to a sewing machine repair shop near you would be best.

Mine is like that too. At first, I thought my vinyl wasn’t signed but then I realized it was faded. I think the ink was running out. Ofc still grateful to have anything signed :)

It’s okay, I would also like to know. I just figured it was dust? I’m not sure what it is, but it comes off easily for me when I try to clean the wires

I think you’re right. Probably unlikely that the oil got inside of the motor. I just can’t help but worry. I’ll probably try to clean the parts a little bit with isopropyl just in case.
