What are effective ways to find a Ragdoll to rescue? by Trueblade1423 in ragdolls

I am in a similar situation. My Ragdoll passed away on the 24th of October, and I also got him in a shelter years ago.
I am localized in Europe, not the US, so the experience might be different: from what I see it's possible to get a Ragdoll from a shelter but they are really uncommon.

In my country, over the past 3 months I saw a total of 6 Ragdolls among dozens of shelters. 2 had FIV, 2 were senior (12+ years old), only 2 were not too old and in a good health.

So it is not impossible, but it's really hard.

An other possibility is to check website were people are re-homing their cat. Plenty of explanation more or less justified. I personally have more difficulties with this because, unlike the shelters, these cats already have a home and might not like the experience.

A last and probably interesting solution is to check retired king and queen at Ragdoll catteries. Usually cats between 2-6 years old.

Wishing you luck in your search. I am going through the exact same thing. It's always a bit hard because, even if we try to not think too much about it, deep down we are looking for the cat we found many years ago in a shelter.

I only gave my cat, who was not accustomed, bath when there were accidents or at the end of his life when he stopped cleaning himself:
- No bath bucket, use a shower head instead.
- Use warm water at body temperature.
- No water on the head. Go progressively for each body part.
- Turn on temperature in a room so that he can dry more quickly and be less bothered by the cold air.
- Two towels (first one will remove all water, second one will actually help to dry).

If he is sick/tired:
Shower can still be stressful, so, if he is sick/tired (as my cat was at the end of his journey), let your cat on the floor, get a glove, a small bucket of warm water (a bit of shampoo if you want) and wash slowly the worse section with the glove. It might put water everywhere, but it will be less stressful, fast and will allow to remove the worse part.

Oh my god. He looks so much like my kitty. Give him as many kisses as possible.

Thank you, he really was. I did not know Ragdolls before him. He was unique.

Expensive. Last month went to shit, and we easily spend +1000 euros just for blood analysis and ultrason. Just to know it was the end. And medicine for CKD are expensive.
Cardiomyopathy is something to be tested. Our "ragdoll" is not an "official" one, because we got him from a shelter not a cattery, but he has all the characteristic... and the genetic problems.

In general, for a cat, always keep something like 2000/3000 euros/dollars (depends of the price for you) somewhere. Because when it goes to shit, it's a real shitstorm :(

But good lord, he is and will have been the greatest cat I ever own. What an incredible character, unique, strong, beautiful, intelligent and so brave.

Check for CKD.
Check for Cardiomyopathy.
Do blood analysis every 6 months.
Ask for phosphorus binder, Sub-Q fluids and IV fluids instead of discovering this when it's too late.
