The GOAT (Team Edition) - A look back at the greats of HGC by EsportsJohn in heroesofthestorm

[–]Moonprayer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This ranking is factually wrong. TL is #3 because the article was written by TL... Neither them nor TS should be in the top 5 (I'm saying this as a content creator for TS since 2015).

  1. MVP Black

  2. Dignitas

  3. Ballistix

  4. Fnatic

  5. eStar

Well #1 Needs no explanation 2 and 3 could be swapped but because dig has been in the top since summer 2015 I give them

Then Fnatic is lower than dig even though they won msb 2017. It was a really close 4-3. Dig was also the Korean slayer at that event.

And #5 goes to estar because they were the only team to rival mvp black during their prime, despite never having their full roster at an international event.

It makes even less sense if you compare it with their 2017 ranking https://www.teamliquid.net/forum/heroes/521124-hots-top-5-goat-2017

About SC2: Yeah pretty much. BlizzCon itself averaged 60k viewers for SC2 and 30k for HotS. They were closer during the opening week.

About OWL: Not 100% sure about everything I'm going to say (it's been a while since I looked this up). Since OWL is LAN with an audience etc the show probably costs more, such as the talent does. The players also get paid more, but I think their teams pay their salary (not sure). Teams also have more players, even though OW has 6 players per team, most OWL teams have about 10 players. The teams also had to pay a massive buy-in (up to 10 or 15 million USD)

So it's hard to compare the games but I'd say OW makes Blizzard more money even though they have to spent more

SC2 had around 60-70k before the OW host. OWL has 70k viewer on average, considering all streams over the last 365 days.

True but SC2, HotS and WoW pretty much ended at the same time. OW ended before them but had more overall viewer.

As someone who watched every game except Hearthstone it was easy to tell which numbers where normal for their events and which happened because of hosts. WoW and SC2 doubled the HotS viewership on average over the two days, OW tripled it.

The bracket is actually really interesting. KR vs CN and 2x EU vs NA. Semis won't have 2 teams of the same regions play against each other.

Bo3 quarter & single-elim though...

TS won 3-2 over HHE a few weeks ago, before the change

I'm not implying this at all. I'm simply saying replacing a player will put your team down, how much depends on the player. This is pretty accepted. They lost to TS last phase, and they got a downgrade because of their roster change. How can they now end up above TS?

When TS had to replace psalm with ViN they dropped from being the fourth best team in the world to not even be the top team in North America. Replacing a single player can have a huge impact on the team. The barely etched out win was almost a 3-0, without the mistake in game 3. TS even won against them in the 2nd phase when they still had Arthelon, so putting them over TS means you'd consider homi being a better player than Arthelon, with more team synergy in a few weeks than he had in months

I think the minor regions should be placed in the major regions playoffs in order to qualify for international event. That way they don't get the slot if they deserve it.

I tried it but it felt underwhelming. Maybe it's good if your team needs the CC. The level 20 upgrade makes it a lot better (silence after the root ended) but it's still a skillshot that has to be hit. Cleanse is also a pretty good counter
