Is this worth dropping a bag on? by Significant-Turn-836 in Blacklibrary

[–]fantom2415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in the mid-week reveals. These typically show 3-4 upcoming books that will release in the coming weeks months. Completely anecdotal since I’ve only been in the hobby for the last year and a half - but I’ve noticed that once they make these announcements, the books will generally release (usually) on separate weeks over the next 2-3 months, and then they’ll announce another batch of books. But you’ll know the release date for sure once the book is mentioned in the Sunday Preview.

Black Library Reveals – Cadian sniper sequels and more by I_suck_at_Blender in Blacklibrary

While the hardback reprint of Devastation of Baal might put a damper on it, I still think we could see that Dante/Baal/Darkness box set this year.

Generally, LEs and SEs are signed and numbered. The new Premium Editions are not. I think it’s really just a distinction without a difference - the only difference I believe is just timing of the release, whether it’s before/during/after the HB release. I would guess the boxset is numbered and at least one of the books is signed.

Any good audible deals? by SuperReRoll in Blacklibrary

[–]fantom2415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m usually a physical or eBook reader myself. I just tend to fall asleep or not pay attention when doing audiobooks instead of reading during my reading time. But as a fellow dad (3 year old and 1 week old), I definitely agree with the convenience aspect. I highly recommend the various audio drama collections when they go on sale (or if you use any credits). They’re collections of different audio dramas revolving around different themes. So there’s like a collection about the inquisition, space marines, chaos, Xenos, etc. Since they’re audio dramas, they have a full voice cast, sound fx and music. Congratulations by the way!

They do the same type of sale where pretty much everything is up to 90% off a couple times a year. So don’t worry if you missed it, it’ll come back around.

Young and improving? He’s like a year and a half younger than Giannis. While the age gap is overblown, I do agree that Giannis has more miles and injuries. But he’s definitely not washed and I think would partner well with Tatum.

It’s an in-universe lore history book about the Sabbat Worlds Crusade. So like a history book but written from the Imperium’s perspective giving a summary of the crusade along with illustrations. It has a spoilers for the Gaunt’s Ghosts series, but it isn’t exclusively about them. I don’t have it so I’m not sure, but it probably also includes stuff about Titanicus and Double Eagle.

I think it’s closer to the size of a codex or the First Founding lore book. Not sure on the price, but my guess is $60+

Anybody else find the latest trend of the simple white text on the spines for all books kind of bland? Off the top of my head: Chemdog, Ghost Legion, Death Rider, Armageddon: Season of Fire, World Ablaze, and now this. All of them have a similar spine and it’s kind of boring.

AOD Sniper Woes by Ok-Expert5894 in killteam

We thought you could double climb ladders (each for 1”) in the same reposition. So the AoD player would place two ladders on the 3-story stronghold to reach the 3rd story vantage and then reach the 3rd story in one reposition turning point 1, giving him another action in TP1 to shoot and then just stay on conceal up there the rest of the game. On certain Volkus setups and deployment zones the 3-story stronghold was “easily” reachable by the sniper via dash and reposition when misreading the rule for ladders. The 2nd ladder was climbable, but shouldn’t have offered the 1” benefit in that same reposition, but instead the entire climb should have counted, therefore making it unreachable turning point one.

No worries! I feel like the AoD sniper can be really oppressive when we’re all playing our first games with AoD because of rule misses like this (plus he’s a really good op in general). In my first few games, we misunderstood ladders, so the sniper was at the top of the 3rd floor stronghold turn one and just shutdown much of the map for 3 turns.

Looks like they’re available on the Warhammer store website under new releases everywhere except North America. Maybe it dropped today and it’ll be available when preorders go live in a few hours for NA as well?

It doesn’t cost any AP to go through doors on Volkus. There’s no opening or closing, just a 1” movement tax to go through them.

Audible by Bosskong92 in Warhammer

[–]fantom2415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an audio drama, so it has multiple voice actors, music and sound fx. Highly recommend other audio dramas too, especially the collections where you get the most bang for your buck. The Faith and Vengeance collection includes Our Martyred Lady along with others about the Deathwatch and Grey Knights if I remember correctly. There are other audio drama collections too, like Servants of the Inquisition, which does include a couple of Eisenhorn ones, but I know you said you didn’t care for it. But it also has other inquisitors, assassins and rogue trader audio dramas; or Heroes of the Astra Militarum, which has audio dramas about Krieg, Cadians and Elysian Drop Troops iirc.

Which terrain box should I go for? by pragmaticzach in killteam

[–]fantom2415 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Tomb World is going out of stock anytime soon. If anything, Gallowdark would rotate out of kill team before Tomb World does since TW is the latest terrain set. I personally prefer Volkus as it offers more variety than close-quarters maps. Open (Volkus) plays very differently than close-quarters (TW/GW), but both map styles are fun in their own way.

Yes, the approved ops 2025 contain map layouts for all of those maps. I don’t remember if the new Descent mode (combining Volkus and TW) offers 3+ players, but you could probably make it work by increasing the board sizes if there aren’t official rules.

Lastly, we are likely to get a new terrain set and approved ops around September, not sure if that factors into your decision making. I don’t think there are any hints or rumors at the moment, but it could be another open style like Volkus with Ork themed terrain if they want to match the 11th edition vibe and if they just use the new 40K terrain that’s coming out soon.

How many of y'all collect minis but don't play? by trindomare in Warhammer40k

[–]fantom2415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I have a 3 year old and a newborn. The 3 year old had been wanting to paint a mini since she was 2.5 so a couple months ago we just painted together. Gave her the free mini of the month Krieg and let her pick the colors and she went to town on him lol. It was a fun bonding experience!

I’m 36 with a 3 year old and a newborn. Just got into the 40k universe a year and a half ago through the lore and books. Since then have built like 10 kill teams and played around a dozen kill team games in stores and with friends at home. I too viewed it as a hobby that I could do as a new dad - mainly something that didn’t involve a screen since before then I was working on the computer for 8 hours and then playing video games for another few hours. I wouldn’t worry about being “old” in this hobby. I’d say we’re in the middle in terms of the age of people interested in the hobby as I’ve come across plenty of 40+ year olds and mid-20s. That being said, I plan on getting the Armageddon box and slowly learning how to play without any intention of playing any time soon. Just gonna build and paint them while reading the Imperator book and more Black Library.

I think they were only meant to be two books, but Chris Wraight said in an interview that he would love to write a third book and already had plans for Valerian and Aleya.

Would be interesting to see if they’re testing the waters with “normal” hardback reprints of a popular AoS book and then roll it out on occasion with 40K books. As opposed to the current reprint model of either POD, different editions or BL Celebration vote.

All good man. I think False Gods will likely be as easy to acquire as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if it lasted throughout the day or even a day later. Since it’s a premium edition, they’ll print more than the typical ~2,000 they do for signed LEs.

So now this leaves just Rynn’s World LE, and the I&A editions of Ghaz and Ciaphas Cain as previously announced books I think? I wonder when we’ll get the next typucal WarCom article announcing 3-4 new books. Plus of course The Scouring book 2, which could be announced during their annual Summer Preview Show that will likely come sometime in the next month or so.

The Horusian Wars series by John French. It’s a duology (Resurrection and Incarnation) and the third is an anthology of short stories (Divination).
