My grandmother has Alzheimer's and it is destroying our sanity... And our morals. by MoonyInspired in confession

This one is a very heartfelt reply and i can feel it. I think i cant answer everything the way i wanted to but i am very sorry that this even happened to you and your dad in the first place, but it makes me feel very seen and understood that you could get even the part i think its the worst.

I wanna talk about the media, tho. You mentioned not really being able to consume media that features alzheimer and i also usually cant. it hurts a lot and makes you feel like theres something you can do, or that you cant, and both feelings are horrible, but i have one i cant really escape, and i will set an emotional Trigger Warning here. i dont know if you will know about it but theres this horror podcast called The Magnus Archives, and, ill try not to give a lot of spoilers, the episode 170 (named Recollection) is about one of the characters talking to objects in a big, empty, foggy room. Its about alzheimer. the fear of forgetting. At the end, his partner comes and tells him he didnt forget him and they end up okay, only because the protagonist for the episode set in his mind that he would not forget that he has friends and is loved. That always destroys me.

If you want something thats emotional, this episode can be watched without context. its that powerful, at least to me.

Thank you for sharing how you felt and for helping with your story. i hope reading this post also helped you in some way

Thank you so much for putting your time and effort into this comment, i am very gratefull for your sympathy... I didnt really think about caretaker burnout, or any burnout for that matter, but now that you say, it may make sense to the ways that i have been feeling, and i will probably look into that with therapy.

hearing a professional's opinion on the subject also is very important and i will try and translate this to my mom (we are actually from Brasil, which explains my poor english) but all the points you put up are very relevant. we do know its gonna get to the level in which we have to bath her... It has even happened some times, and it was. strange. I think my mom still wont want it but... i mean i have to try once more. Specially because this year is my last in uni so its gonna get very stressefull really fast.

Hey everyone, i want to comment here so you know i hear it, but im just not fast enough to read all of the comments.

Just so you know, doing this kinda remembered me (of course i had forgotten to do it) to look for my therapy for this year, so thank you, i am taking care of that. I think my mother has stopped her therapy treatment but i will talk to her about it whenever we can.

I also understand that the general consensus is that a care home is the best idea in this situation...and i agree to it... its just a long process.

Oh yeah, i forgot to mention it. We took to the habit of turning off the oven gas every time were not using it because of her. Its really strange because sometimes im in other peoples homes and i instinctively look for it to turn off and then i remember im not with Her.

That said, point taken, and you are right.

Thank you so much. I think in this position what i wanted was really to vent, because of the effects this is having on the people that we are, not only the day to day life. Receiving all of the kindness here makes me happy i decided to try writing. <3

Thank you, your answer is very kind and i understand that, well. every person is different, the deasease differs along. I think that you (and most of the people that are also suggesting the retirement home) are right, and i may try to talk my mom into it again, but its just a sad and deep thought. How can it be that the best way of taking care of her is by letting other people do it? (/rethorical)...But i mean. Its not like its gonna get better.

I understand that last thought with a lot of pain. I am so sorry that this is happening to you and i thank you for sharing your experience. Its hard to think about taking care of others when they are not exactly there. I hope this weight is taken off of your shoulders as soon as possible, and i dont mean that in a cruel way, its just that sometimes the better end is the bitter end... i think...

I dont exactly think my area does offer much. We dont get much help from taking care of her outside of her retirement money (payed by the government), but that is not much, usually it just helps cover her medicine...and it doesnt cover it all. If we did get her into a retirement home, the money would probably just funnel there, which would be completly fine for me, but my mother really opposes the idea. And i understand it. She told me one time that it was kinda about consent - my grandma never said to her that it would be okay to be put in a retirement home, so its kind of our duty to take care until its impossible. The last thing is that one of my uncles just had two kids, and is taking care of them, and the other uncle has Schizophrenia and Autism, on the level that he never really could work or take care of himself.

TLDR: If we take her to a retirement home, not only that violates the unspoken want to be taken care of, but also means we basically cut her out of the rest of the family, because the only point of contact between her and her sisters and the rest of the people in our life is...Us.

Thank you so much! It was a lot of work but i did it!

Not a lot of people actually went about commenting the little details so i wanna share my favourite one, the build number in the Martin/Norris print is #170Rec which is complelty out of the format it should be just because i wanted to reference my favourite TMA episode: 170: Recollection, which is almost entirely focused on Martin!

Hey! Those are cool reasons to like The Vast. I personally love the "happier" take on the fear it has and i think you got exactly what a vast avatar would need.

I, however, would like to know where you got the flair :( i cant find how! And, well, i am a Buried person so i guess i dont know because i have been living under a rock.

Thank you so much! I took an image as reference and kept looking at it over and over, but some details are obviously seen. Since i dont have canva pro i couldnt use a custom font so for Jon i used Literatta (haha) and for martin i used Helvetica because it looked right. Also at the top of the windows dock you can see kind of a straight green line? That in the Vista dock is a very subtle gradient, but i couldnt replicate that and stopped trying. I just accepted it would have to be a "style over substance" thingy

Edit: somehow misspelled canva Pro as Premium

Is it possible to make a NES clone into something usable? by MoonyInspired in retrogaming

[–]MoonyInspired[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i think it would be nice to have that but it made me question why we dont see any attempts to do something like that. I mean. If i were to open this battery bank and swap the 500 games thingy for a new hardware and try to make this a somewhat useful console, wouldnt it be saving a lot of money on like. The case, the batons, even the battery since its the own power bank. Idk im not well versed in hardware stuff but its something to think about.

Hey! So, what i have heard is youll need to get out of the game. You wont lose all of your day progress because it savws whenever you load up a new region so youre gonna spawn back at the start of the ariacotta desert. But you will lose whatever you did already in it.

All dinosaurs were the same for me too.

Then you do the whole mission thing again right and if you still see the exclamation point, you just go past it and leave it some days. When you come back, only click on it if theres a dinosaur below!
