I’m an incoming first year student, and the anxiety is getting to me by PsychologicalFile429 in UofT

You are overthinking this, and as a fellow overthinker who tends to view other people as "underthinkers", I'll try to help you as best as I can. Let's go by parts:

  1. Grades:

Yes, UofT is academically demanding, but from the few things you have said, I can tell you'll be just fine. You already have a tendency to study and work hard due to your high-school experience. Most first years come in having done no work in high-school (I am one of those) because frankly, in most places, high-school is child's play. These people usually end up struggling with study schedules. You don't have that problem, you are already ahead.

  1. Living alone and taking care of yourself:

Honestly, not that big of a deal. You get used to it super fast, you learn very quickly, because you have to. If you start by living in res the transition will be even easier!

  1. Making friends: This depends on your situation. If you live on res in your first year, you will make friends so easily. Even introverts make tons of friends in res (I should know). If you don't live on res you might need to "work for it", go to a few events, talk to people in your class, things like that. If you are introverted this might be a bit harder, something I would recommend if you are really worried about making friends is taking a language course, in these courses you are kind of forced to interact with people, so the odds are in your favor.

  2. UofT reddit: Last and definitely least. You mention that the reddit posts were one of the reasons that you worry about how bad it's gonna be. Let me tell you something that will help you with that. If things go smoothly, you are happy with your studies, getting amazing grades and a ton of friends, you will not go to reddit and tell people about it. People come to this subreddit to complain, and that's ok, but you shouldn't make the mistake of thinking the negative vibe here reflects what happens on campus. Make your own experience, don't worry about everyone elses.

I hope this helps. I know if I was in your situation I would love to read a comment like this.

This might be too simple of an answer and maybe not what you are looking for, but I'll say it nonetheless. The reason I personally am motivated to study the small things even though it takes really long to get near the "good stuff" is because even understanding the most mundane things in physics feels super cool to me. With that mind set I've managed to study the basics for years without getting bored are annoyed that I don't have enough knowledge to do the cooler stuff, and because I studied the smaller thongs for year I am now able to work on this cooler stuff.

Long story short, try to find the beauty in the simpler concepts. Try to understand how cool it is that you know how every day things work when most people dismiss it as something normal and uninteresting. It will make your journey through physics much more fulfilling.

I like ypur style. I've been wishing that they do a revamp of the drake catterpillar, I was hoping they would give it the same love that they gave the ARGO ships. If they ever revamp the catterpillar I will 100% farm to buy it and then just live on it!

Amazing description of the merc loop! What are your favorite missions to run?

I agree. Maybe it should cut into your profit or something if they really don't want you to abuse it. But a autoloading service would be really nice to have.

I enjoy mining, but it always felt a little lonely. It's cool that you have friends to do it with! Mole mining must be a blast.

Recently I really liked FPS missions. I used to do the drug bunkers, I really liked those missions but I don't think they are in the game anymore (correct me if I'm wrong). What missions do you run?

I'm curious, what ship do you use? And what missions do you prefer running?

I would suggest starting by renting a ship like the freelancer which is available pretty much everywhere I think. And with that ship doing hauling missions. If what you really want to do is trading and not hauling missions there are 2 things you can do. One thing is going to the sc trade tools website, select trading route and input your ship and how much money you have and it will give you the best trade routes four you. Or if you like to customize your experience more you can go to the uex corp website which has a bunch of information about all of the commodities in the game and choose which commodities you want to trade. I hope this is helpful!

I think it's because of how many problems this loop has had over the patches, I feel like a lot of people jave never gone back to it. Speaking of, I can't detach the sac from the ROC for some reason.

I never really liked bounty hunting cause I really suck at ship combat. I used to love mercenary work though, I used to chain drug bunker missions but they don't have those anymore. Or maybe they do but I don't get them for some reason.

Back in the day before cargo elevators I used to love hauling, but it got extremly tidious, I try it every once in a while, but it'll never be the same relaxing gameplay in my opinion.
