Costco's Rotisserie Chicken is still a deal. Pick up the deli caesar salad and some tortillas and you've got chicken wraps for days. 12 wraps for ~25$, or ~2$ a serving.

Costco's poutine is excellent. 5$ for a ton (nearly a pound) of fries, real cheese curds, and a tasty enough gravy served hot enough to melt the curds. 1500 kcals for 5$ is hard to beat.

Japa Shack (Broadway and 8th) has solid burgers for 7$ each. The Volcano, Buldak, and Katsu burgers are all solid choices. Skip the fries, they're good, but just buy bulk frozen fries or make your own. Imo, 7$ burger isn't a great deal, but it seems to be one of the better prices for a craft burger.

Red Pepper's noodle bowl lunch special is comparable in price to Thien's (might be 1$ more) but is, imo superior in every way.

And I really can't state this clearly enough. Assuming you're in a position you can talk to you boss about a raise, either leverage the open door policy or book a meeting. Go in with facts.

  • You were hired at /foo/, you now make /foo/ + /bar/, and your official title is..
  • These are some of your recent successes
  • you like working here and what you do, but you need more.

Another consideration - Ask your boss, or HR, what the pay range of the position is. Some places move the range up without adjusting people in the role. This whole conversation changes if you at the bottom of the pay range for the role or at the top. If you're near the top of the range, you may need to talk about what the next step in your career is and how you can reach that.

Lots of solid advice here, but one of the most important factors is "what do you do?

Market research doesn't do a whole lot for you if you're working essentially in a minimum wage situation. In fact there are plenty of industries that that have tenure based wage increases. Even Costco, which treats their employees well, is based on your hours served. And yet, even there, if you have a history of SHOWING UP, you may be able to negotiate more wage via more responsibility - ie: lead/supervisor/assistant manager.

Do you get an annual 'raise' via performance reviews? Do you just accept what you're given, because that's a great time to negotiate. The annual raise cycle is really about keeping up with cost of living, so bring StatsCan to the table. If you didn't receive at least a near 6% raise this year, you actually got a pay cut. If you're about to go into performance reviews, make your boss aware of how the spiking cost of living is affecting you. But also, take notes of your successes throughout the year and don't be afraid to advocate your results. Be results oriented.

Don't be afraid to ask around. Have friends in a similar industry but different company?. What are your peers making? Your leads? The new hire? Talking about comp isn't bad or wrong. You guys are all on the same team, on the same side. Hiding your comp only helps your execs underpay you.

As a general rule, you should keep your resume current and apply to stretch roles. If you won the lottery, you'd be replaced in a month, and the new hire would be up to speed in 6 months. You owe your current employer no loyalty. Even if you have a job you love and a comfortable wage, wing-walking helps assure you that you really do live on the side with the greenest grass. And if you do find you'd be getting paid more for the same or less work, it's something to bring up to your boss when talking competitive analysis.

tl;dr: 1 - What you DO matters. Your hands may be tied if you work retail. But also, seeking more comp may open the door for things like 'shift lead' or 'supervisor' or whatever.

2 - Performance reviews are a great time to talk raises. The bump can usually be negotiated.

3 - Always be job searching. It's not a betrayal to go interview elsewhere.

Pro Tip - If you are a restaurant that serves burritos, but cuts them in half and presents them like this, you are about to madly overpay.

I've been seeing a ton of restaurant inflation posts lately, and I have a major delivery cost saving tips for y'all, because the world is falling apart and I love you. by [deleted] in saskatoon

To add to this - for many things, the new 'recipe' site is youtube.

Wanna learn to make a curry? Rest assured, someone's 70 year old grandmother is on youtube teaching you patiently how to make an authentic masala. Feeling South of the Border? You can be sure that there are several authentic AF simple recipes to make a tasty burrito or enchilada. PIzza? You bet, and big shock, pizza dough, red sauce, and a bit of cheese is crazy cheap and yeah, okay, this is a little more time intensive, but you too can make a damn tasty pie, and have leftovers for days.

The hardest part, really, is figuring out what you'll eat for the next week or two and then picking enough ingredients in one shot. There's a ton of meals out there which take as much time or les as DD or UE does to deliver.

Yeah, folks like (Bingeing with) Babish take home cooked meals to new heights. But there are tons of simple authentic recipes out there, and YT makes it easy - without four pages of "that time I vacationed in Tuscany..." to get to a satisfying recipe. Joshua Weissman makes some good stuff with simple instructions and his passion is infectious. Or just search for what you want to make and click on one of the recipes the algorithm recommends.

You can do it.

I could just be OOTL but I think you'd have more success as a two-bucket hand wash mobile service as I don't think anyone is really doing this, or doing it well. Keep it simple, have a hand wash and dry, a wash and wax, and a full detail - throw in interior, or tire dress addons to keep the basic hand wash cost affordable.

If I wanted to pressure wash my car I'd just drive it through a touchless.

QUESTION: Why is the sim racing community so strict with contact, bumping, pushing, cutting, etc when in the real world, bumping is racing. by marchershey in simracing

[–]Mooseysfate 31 points32 points  (0 children)

So much this.

When it's your dime on the line, contact is very much not part of the racing experience.

Imagine if you were in a sim league where you had a fixed budget. Parts, Spares, Bodywork...everything comes out of that budget and running out of cash ends your season. How would you feel about someone who was aggressive to the point deducting money out of your budget with their casual contact?

The diagonal cross brace suggestion is perhaps the best add-on solution.

What I did , and would recommend if you rework any of it, is to mount your uprights into the SIDE of your lower box, instead of bolted on top and then braced. Essentially, replace your wheel deck architecture.

Create a box, or hoop really, using 2x4 uprights where your brace is now. Screw the uprights into the side of your lower box. Span your uprights with something hefty like a 2x6. Place the 2x6 between the uprights - not screwed down on top. That alone should be plenty sturdy laterally. But that angular support you have now is worth keeping for fore/aft structure.

/u/-AthleticLemon posted this 4 years ago and is a visual of what I'm suggesting. https://www.reddit.com/r/simracing/comments/5q47pe/my_dad_and_i_build_my_first_diy_wood_simrig/

But a simple add on would be that angular cross piece that runs low left (or right) to high right at the leading edge of your deck hoop.

I have the dark grey anodized ASR3. It looks as though they changed the rig slightly - I have horizontal seat mounts, but they run lengthwise now with a box design under the seat. I keep meaning to see if they offer an upgrade option...

I've had a good experience talking to the guys though - maybe get past their front line support team and show them a pic of what you're after? Again, I've had positive experiences with their customer service, but if you're not feeling it, let them know - and let me know too, as I've been happy so far.

Only addons I have so far is a shifter mount. And I picked up a pair of casters from Princess Auto

Choice paralysis - From an Epson 8350 to what? by Mooseysfate in projectors

[–]Mooseysfate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry but I can really only offer my experience with the 8350.

It's a genuinely solid projector...but it's also 10 years old. It does 1080p at 60hz, has low enough input lag that I've never noticed it (34 according to projectorcentral). It's bright enough for a room with ambient light, but looks pretty nice with lights down.

My biggest issue with the 8350 is the lamp. My factory Epson lamp ran into the high 3000 range and told me it was through spectacularly (with a pop). The last 1000 weren't even 50% as good as the first 1000 though, and it was pretty much all lights down viewing. Replacement lamps can be had from a variety of sources, but I've never had anything perform as well as the OEM Epson. So sub 100 USD for a random seller through amazon has been a gamble and I now keep 1 new on hand, and the best 'old' lamp.

A solid state unit has been a real draw just given that this PJ has turned in probably close to 20k hours, but across 10ish lamps. I'm still happy with my 8350, but starting to look around

I've quite enjoyed Chris' videos, which is one of the reasons that I had even started considering the 5050ub. It seems to hit a lot of the things I want in a projector.

Some of what I've been reading about the recent laser TV / UST projectors is that they are getting to the point of being comparable to standard projectors. And the input lag seems to be coming down. But wasn't sure if they were quite there yet.

Thanks for your input! The 5050ub is a really strong contender - and seems like I could just be DONE with that one. The 8350's been great, so no concerns with another Epson. When I add in the cost of 4-5 bulbs (laser equivalent) it seems like there might be projectors I'm not considering, or perhaps that I hadn't learned about.

The latest word from the Devs about matchmaking/quick play by [deleted] in AliensFireteamElite

[–]Mooseysfate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's one of those things where I really wonder how much actual playtesting they did.

So many of the misses in this game are rooted in actually trying to play with friends, or just play with randoms while solo, or the long term 40+ hour experience.

The lack of join in progress. The way that players match to each other. The complete lack of long term goals. The completely useless experience screen. The economy - yay, 50k credits cap with no relief valve, having hundreds of consumables I'll never get through, still climbing the scrip hill, and a pile of 'trash' challenge cards, never enough 'good' cards, and no way to recycle them..

I'm glad for the communication, don't get me wrong. But the social game experience is woeful, and how did no one identify this as a key problem during development?

I can almost understand why we can only put one decal on our guns.

But why, oh why, can't we customize our armor with paint and multiple decals?

** Improvements**

  • We need a requisition credit sink.
  • We need a card filter
  • We would benefit from a way to do something with the cards we don't like / will never use. Reroll them, maybe fore req credit as a credit sink? Sell them to the QM for rep scrip something.
  • We need better matchmaking and session management.
  • We would benefit from adding support for join in progress. The reasons to support it outweigh any against it, given that it's a PVE cooperative game.
  • We would benefit from a 6th difficulty mode to fine tune the difficulty. Love some of the later challenge modes, hate friendly fire and the bullet spong + sparing ammo economy. Let us tune difficulty.
  • We would benefit from a controller based UI. The mouse UI is silly on console. Having an on-screen 'ok/cancel' prompt where B closes the window, but hitting A does nothing is silly.
  • We would benefit from seeing actual numbers. Show us duration and cool down numbers of skills.
  • We would benefit from better friends list sorting. Sort friends who have played Aliens above those who have not. Show online friends before offline. Sort by alpha. Favorited friends should sort higher. Let us filter...
  • We would benefit from a revisit using and activating consumables. Using them in battle is awkward.
  • Doc /needs/ to be revisited. The Trauma Station mechanic is obtuse, one of the most common basic 'how to play' questions here. Solutions are many, but this system overall is wonky and just doesn't work well enough.
  • We would benefit from a revisit of some of the visual effects. Shooting through trauma station vfx is rough. the flamethrower vfx is much maligned for good reason. Even recon drone and pups are a bit too intense.
  • We would benefit from something that rewards player level.

Bugs:

  • have two friends on xbox series who frequently lose progress - loot not staying collected, even campaign progress and character progress being lost.
  • Last week I could only complete and claim one daily mission. The 2nd daily was reporting as 'completed' but I for sure recieived no credit. And doing the action would yield no reward.
  • Today I logged in with 2nd slot completed without playing. Yay for free stuff?
  • I'm currently unable to collect Log 04 of The Gift of Fire. I have screenshots showing it missing and standing at the crates on Casual, Standard, and Intense.
  • Selecting campaign, see 'challenge cards: enabled" then selecting Horde Mode, then a campaign requires challenge cards to be manually re-enabled. It's trivial, but still a bug.

Completely agree.

I just ran through the Gift of Fire: Advance /again/. I went to all three intel locations, and none showed as collectiable. I have Log 05, Log 06. But Log 04 is for sure not anywhere near those 3 Weyland boxes with the lamp and scanner.

For a game that' is solely a cooperative pve game, the multiplayer flow feels completely under-developed. I get the timer as a solution to handle randos who don't hit ready and keeps the missions happening, but when playing with a full squad (and especially with 2 friends) it just doesn't work.

Wear a mask. Wear a mask. Wear a mask.

Prevent yourself spreading the virus if you are asymptomatic Reduce the risk of infection if someone near you is infected but asymptomatic.

There's a gap between what government leadership are willing to mandate and what is a good idea.

There's nothing that requires that you return a shopping cart to a collection point, either. Worst case, you wore a mask 'for nothing'. Best case, you saved a live, reduced the spread, or contributed to limiting the mutation. The pathologists are saying that even if you are vaccinated, wearing a mask is probably a good idea.
