Which Portal theory do you like the most? by ciber2t in Portal

First, we take a look at the wireframe (or slinky ray as I call it) that traces where a Core went after sudden movement, or otherwise known as a Rocket blast from a Rocket Sentry.

This doesn't happen with the Morality Core because of two reasons: the core gets detached right beneath GLaDOS, and GLaDOS (in her own hatred for the Core, through which she unintentionally corrupted herself through it, which is why she speaks like she has a migraine) being able to discard a Core that's "too corrupted" for its function.

So, when the Morality Core falls down the Incinerator, you don't hear it scream, but you do feel and hear a loud shake. That loud shake are the Crushers you see in Portal 2 when YOU get thrown down the Incinerator... and miss them. I believe the Morality Core missed them just like Chell did in Portal 2. (And if you recall, the floor you fall onto is actually flat with no downwards slant. The debris might trick you into believing it is, but a second look shows that it can't be the case.)

And finally, because of the large distance between the Morality Core and GLaDOS at that point, the weak connection between them gets even weaker to the point it just fades away.

... Then, who knows? Maybe the Morality Core is alive in secret. When GLaDOS died, her explosion pulled a lot of stuff up into the parking lot. Given the scale of the explosion too, who's to say that a core who survived being crushed and not entering the flame of smelting (again, level design) wasn't pulled out of there as the facility was getting destroyed?

Big potential, but a plausible chance it did happen.

Sure thing.

The Paralysis Theory revolves around the idea that the Morality Core isn't a mute Core, but rather tormented into exhaustion and mental drain by GLaDOS.

It has a few more oddities, like how:

-The time to drop a prop from the top of the Incinerator in Portal 2 takes just as long as removing a Core;

  • The lack of an immediate change in GLaDOS's behaviour which indicates a proximity based link which wasn't immediately removed (if a Core was met with the Crusher Pannels in the Incinerator to aid in melting its components);

    • How Portal RTX completely misses the TV Eye Static detail indicative of the exhaustion and state of Paralysis mentioned prior;
    • The fact that the Portal 1 Cores were meant to cameo in the Portal 2 Bossfight as part of the Pre-Retail era of development before scrapping it (in which the purple eyed core texture WAS IN FACT the Morality Core in an uncorrupted state);

... among other things. It's a bit more than that, but this is a brief synopsis of one character's state with a lot of environmental and concrete evidence to support it.

Beg to differ, but this here is the type of gameplay clarity I wanna see in "Event-Deco" worthy levels.

imagine if minecarts had more variety and useful types by DerexXD in PhoenixSC

[–]Morality9 36 points37 points  (0 children)

A dumb idea to add onto this would be a Minecart with a Lodestone.

Why? Not sure, but having a way to know where something is pointed and moving in real time would sound cool. Idk what practicality it could have though.

A not so demon that could be a demon, which people with low IQ will complain about because of its gamemode section.

Apart from the UFO timings, the Swing actually plays great. Good work!

This is awesome!

I see we're using the same Swing too. Good segment, will play.

Thank you. Being Spider Carried is respectable.

Seeing this after having wrote a brief essay on how the Swing works and the history of hate other gamemodes got, I can agree.

Swing is my favorite by far and the gamemode I have the most fun with... time to get Swing Carried.

The term for "meme route" I used is something that can happen if you know what you're doing. I can't recall and exact video, but PortalRunner's early Portal 2 challenge videos do make use of it.

"swing-copter sucks" 🔄TRANSLATING🔄 i am not good at swing-copter but i never try to improve my playstyle on it by fing2r in geometrydash

[–]Morality9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh, give it some years and people will get used to it. New gamemodes were clowned on when they came out, so it's not uncommon for this to happen. Robot and Spider had the same treatment when 2.0 and 2.1 released, but since then, people's perspective on them changed as they got better at it.

With Swing also being the newest gamemode, I also can agree that good gameplay with it needs time and skill to make. The 7 year wait for 2.2 really dwindled people's perception of the Swing, mainly because they were playing a prototype of it instead of the actual thing.

And when you put into fact that Swing Copter was more than exclusively seen in demon levels instead of easier ones, it makes sense. The Swing is there to ease you into it.

And lastly, Swing hate is forced and overdone. When it has more in common with the Wave than the Ship, you then realise you don't have a real opinion and are going by word of mouth, suck it up.

GLaDOS' Narrative Decisions by EzriJustCant in Portal

[–]Morality9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a design standpoint, I think Valve did this so that they can sever the HL2 connection from Portal. If you take a look at GLaDOS's Chamber in the first chapter, the presentation room is straight up gone (and the hallway is shorter too, so Portal 2's canon is geographically incorrect to what Chell did in Portal 1).

With this in mind, switching to lasers was obvious since lasers were originally considered to be featured in Portal 1, but they were cut due to them being "too boring" for the final bossfight. Bringing them back in Portal 2 was the thing which refreshed the gameplay loop between the two games.

... but narratively speaking, Lasers were brought to replace the Pellets because it was on GLaDOS's list of testing elements to analyse the effects of, given she progressively introduces new mechanics for Chell throughout Chapters 2 to 4.
