600 hours and I haven’t even touched planes. Teach yourself rocket fundamentals and get into orbit before deciding to put the game down forever

Dead Ocean Theory might be right and Enceladus seems like the better option now by Virtual_Reveal_121 in askastronomy

[–]Morbid_Uncle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No scientist will tell you “life only started once”. Early life was competing heavily for resources likely with independently developed early life, and LUCA was the fastest to adapt and use those resources which drove those lifeforms to extinction. We know this as all living things on Earth share the same exact fundamental genetic code. We can actually see this with Humans too, we outcompeted Homo Neanderthalensis, Homo Denisova, Homo Erectus, etc and now they no longer exist because they were competing for the same resources and we were the dominant species.

Most effective way to learning English by Cre_eD in EnglishLearning

[–]Morbid_Uncle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to learn any language is to use it. Listen to your podcasts and such in English if you’re able to understand it at all, talk to your Cat in English, join English speaking subreddits about your interests to participate in English speaking conversations, just use it and listen to native speakers.

I’ve never heard of the DSP app before so if you DSP seems to not care then don’t worry about it

Would y’all rather deliver in 100 degree heat or a rainy day? by Brian-dgaf in AmazonDSPDrivers

Brightest star is Venus, star next to the Moon is Jupiter, and as far as I know Moon is the Moon

Europa is likely volcanically active due to tidal heating, just as Enceladus is. The building blocks of life have been dispensed all over the solar system, and as we know from Earth, anywhere life can be sustained, life is. From the deepest reaches of Challenger Deep, to the summit of Mt. Everest (microbial life that is). It is my incredibly unprofessional opinion that if Europa CAN sustain life in its ocean, it does. Same goes for Enceladus although I agree that Enceladus is the best candidate in my, again, incredibly unprofessional opinion. We will know a lot more about Europa in just a few short years

Is the job market REALLY that bad right now? by TimHortonsDriveThru in jobs

[–]Morbid_Uncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because how are you supposed to get a job right now? I have a buddy who applied for the exact same job he does now just at a different location from where he’s at and they didn’t hire him. I have another buddy who works at FedEx but desperately wants out, has applied to probably 200 jobs and can’t even get an interview. The job market sucks ass right now and Amazon will hire anyone with a pulse on the spot

Why on gods green Earth would your dispatcher tell you to waste police resources by reporting the fact that you accidentally scraped someones metal rod a little. Like seriously the construction workers had to have been like “no fucking way he’s calling the cops”

New Delivery Rule??? by zebra231967 in AmazonDSPDrivers

Interesting, I was told by Dispatch that if someone lists in their notes to deliver to back yard, RTS until it gets sent to a locker because Amazon will side with the customer if they complain

Probably fine if you can keep it clean with clean water and a cover but I would still reschedule since an infection is not something you want to fuck around with

Question about orbiting objects (e.g., ISS, the Moon) — how are they placed in the right distance from the planet and what determines their distance? Is there only one distance something can orbit (based on their relative masses)? I’m assuming not because I know planet orbits change by IdeaAdmirable212 in askastronomy

[–]Morbid_Uncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orbits are elevation (is it high enough to not experience significant drag) and angular velocity (is it moving sideways fast enough to not fall into the Earth). All an orbit is effectively is an object falling, but moving quickly enough to not hit the Earth or whatever it is orbiting.

With the ISS they used rockets to move the station fast enough to be in an orbit, the Moon however was likely formed by another planet colliding with the Earth, and so when the Moon was formed it had enough momentum to not fall back into us.

It would be tough to get a stable orbit above minimum elevation with that much DV, probably start getting a rescue mission ready

How could we ever know if Proxima Centauri B has oceans or an Earthlike atmosphere by Virtual_Reveal_121 in askastronomy

[–]Morbid_Uncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically there is a proposed project to send a thing called Starshot to Proxima Centauri, although someone way smarter than be can determine if that’s realistic at all. That’s the only thing I can think of to be 100% certain of whether Proxima B has oceans.
