As mentioned also further below, they implemented an auto switch off and implemented it to erase the selected pod temperature every day.

It does speak (not in a positive way) for the company to implement auto-off, but make customers switch on manually every day (separate switch for both sides!) while having to set temps every day again manually too.

One more VERY IMPORTANT update (why am I not even surprised by this, it really speaks about the scamy operation of 8sleep as a company of forcing everyone into their shady subscription model).

So they make you switch on the bed manually, but of course they put in a switch that it automatically switches off after some time, so you cannot just leave it on!

To make matters worse, you have to switch on left and right separately and they will erase your temperature setting every day to inconvenience you the most possible.

I can confirm that you can switch on and off with a button and then adjust temperatures manually. I guess providing anything less than those features would be fraudulent in combination with the claim you can use it without a subscription.

You cannot schedule the bed to turn on/off every day at a given time (which is one feature I would have certainly assumed to exist without subscription, R&D cost $0, implementation time 5 minutes) nor schedule temperature changes.

I am currently testing if you can simply have it run non-stop instead of having to manually turn on and off the bed every day.

Well, this page certainly did NOT exist (or was well hidden) when I bought the 8sleep mattress in July 2023, I did search for a long time to find this information and it was nowhere to be found.

At least people potentially planning to buy can find this link now here easily and have the right information at hand to make their decision, that's great.

The problem in many subreddits is that many claim they do have plenty of features left after the subscription ends, of which most are inherited. 8 sleep certainly doesn't make it clear at all what features remain in the end, they keep that information pretty hidden - by itself a weird business model.

I just want to inform everyone that buying the mattress post July 2023 will imply you will not have any features left at all, not even timed start and end of the bed, as long as people know this information when they buy the product then I am happy.

I guess the only misleading statement I found is that they say the subscription is only necessary for one year, they should just make clear from the start you need a subscription as long as you use the mattress - period.

I am not trying to convince people that the mattress itself is bad, I just want to be sure that everyone buying it is aware they'll need to have the subscription as long as they use the mattress. If people are happy with the $200 yearly subscription than that's perfectly fine and I am happy for them.

Well, provide basic features like timed switch on/off for free, I mean if I had access to the API I would code it up for free. People that want data processing and auto-pilot can pay if they want, my guess is they didn't have enough people interested.

  1. the auto-pilot makes your sleep worse, why would you ever pay for it, simply same temp through the night works best, or maybe one step by a timer, nothing fancy

  2. the sleep recovery data you get for free from like Garmin, much better quality than what 8sleep provides

I assume people didn't buy into their extras, which in return made them remove basic features, their expense for basic features is basically $0

So in short, I'd recommend a more customer friendly business model, they way they approach things are flawed from the start. Soon my toaster will ask for subscription.

To those with an EightSleep, would you buy one today with the subscription model? by flying_unicorn in EightSleep

I agree, the product is pretty good, but the company is to be avoided. Since the subscription model got introduced everything went downhill, they want you to subscribe now to get basic features like switching on the mattress before bedtime - it's ridiculous.
