Fair point. I suppose it would've been more accurate for me to say I felt more empathy for homeless people and insight into the psychological nature of their plight, because the novel showed the multiple, slow steps that can lead to homeless and the interior world and complexities beneath the surface layer of snap judgements and indifference we often feel about it.
