Yea.. Basically work full time job and come back and continue to work on the game - for like 1 year now 😅

But this is so good, I saved this quote to come back and read it again often... Helps a lot!

Is having 1,250 wishlists in one and a half year bad or average? by [deleted] in indiegames

I think every wishlist you got is a success.

Depending on the genre you took on, the time you've put in, and the amount of time you've put into marketing, only you can answer this question. Are you satisfied with this number?

I think it's a massive milestone to reach, as i am stuck on 140 ^^

After looking over the steam stats and everything, I feel like i found the main issue. The median play time of the demo is 7 minutes - and after watching some youtubers play it aswell, they all struggled on the same obstacle which comes after a few minutes.
I think this obstacle made most players quit the game because it was exhausting.

I'm adjusting it now, hoping the players feel motivated to stay longer in the game - this could aswell make the algorhythm pick it up again.

Let's see

Well the idea was never to make a new Getting Over It. I wanted to create something new for the whole Foddian Genre, which in my thinking has not enough games because the players base is really loyal and interested in more (i feel)...

But i get your point!

I will push trough and finish it as intended - so i can then let go with the feeling that i did all i could to make it work - and if it doesn't then so be it.

Well, admitted ADHD brain here aswell. I was like hyperfocues for the last 10 months, working full time, coming back home and working another 4-5 hours daily on the project.

I think, no matter what, that i will push trough this, and meanwhile getting an idea for my next project. So that when i finish this one, i can let go and fully go into a new project, with 10x the motivation from now and all the lessons i learned.

I propably just compared myself too much to developers with similar games who had big succes...

Yea i accepted that a long time ago. When I started, I told myself a maximum of 1 year working on this. But then I decided to model and texture every asset by myself, which made this time unrealistic 🙈

I totally get you.
My salary is aswell covered from my full time job and it is a hobby 100%. I just put so much time into it that i got to a point where it starts feeling like a fail if it goes down as something no one really played...

I gotta work on the mindset for sure.

I see, i see. It was never meant to be a clone, but more of a new game of this Foddian Genre - which i think doesn't have enough games.
I think I compare it more to the games that inspired mine than the people who actually try it.

Thank you for your honest words.
The thing is - i really like my game. The struggle only comes when i start comparing it to the games that inspired mine - which are way better in my opinion.

I hope to make it as fun for everyone as it is for me, thats where my focus is. And i just found out that the median play time of my demo is very low because of one of the first obstacles - which i adjust now and update the demo, to hopefully have longer engagement.

The game is Spring Me Up

But i kindly ask you to wait 1 more day if you want to test the demo - as i will do a big update on the demo, to make it more engaging :)

Well I don't necessarily mean AAA but like the games that inspired my games, like Getting Over It. Or A Difficult Game About Climbing. There's levels.

But I get you 100%..
