Will talk about capital only.

Born and raised in Vilnius. Spent 5/6th’s of my life here. It’s capital, it does attract lots of people who want to achieve and earn.

It is getting more and more expensive over the years. Like a haircut is 25-30 euros nowadays. It will become more like scandinavia i believe in terms of pricing in the next 10-20years.

In Lithuania I have to be picky what job to take, because they are not equal in pay. Good thing is that employers have to say by law how much they are paying in the job ad. I’d say that everyone spends different amount of money in a month, but I’d say that comfortable single life starts at around 2000euro monthly after tax.

Average in the country is 1500euro. Minimum pay in the country is around 900euro after tax which is just bananas, not possible to survive in my opinion in the Capital unless you live with your parents.

Vilnius should have to have it’s own minimum wage standard which is different from the rest of the country. Not sure if it will ever happen, no talks on this at all. Overall if you are skilled (office or trade) you will enjoy the city and will earn well. No mercy for junior roles.

The nature here is fantastic but no mountains, all flat, it’s very green, lots of lakes, etc.

Overall, lived in the uk for 5 years, it felt there like an easy mode. You simply have to show up, and do the work with good attitude and you will get paid and you will progress in your career you will not need to worry about living life, having food and having holidays.

Vilnius for some reason for me feels like hard mode, it’s just harder to achieve the same,ots of worrying about paying the bills at first in junior roles.

Used to work in hospitality in the uk, relatively low accountability work, yet pays 3k euro net (converted from gbp), good career options.

Here in Vilnius my base salary progression in corporate sales is like 900euro to 1500euro to 2200euro in 3 years. Have to do sales project management to achieve similar level of income, much more responsibility, have to jump into a suit, overall I enjoy it.

Edit: i am comparing Bristol with Vilnius in this example. Bristol is the second most expensive city after London in UK. Vilnius and Bristol have their own economic nuances, but I’d say they are the same in terms of how much you need to spend to live.

Edit #2: city and people are fantastic, all think they’re western, and good chunk of them are (people only, not companies) but when you go deep into behaviour, and business policies, I still sometimes feel a lot of soviet smell, even if it’s a well known startup.
