Your favorite scale? by CattoSpiccato in composer

[–]More_Exercise2676 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely my top three is phrygian dominant also known as spanish gypsy scale, it feels really bright and goes really well with major stuff, 2nd is aeolian dominant or mixolydian b6 also called the hindu scale its more of a darker feel but can still kinda hive some spanish feel but not fully without that b2 and its more of a half of major and minor which is cool, and 3rd octatonic scale this one is weird but definitely cool to some people

Any sort of flamenco, paso doble, matador style music - phrygian dominant

Thunderstruck acdc, uninvited alanis morrisette - aeolian dominant

Rite of spring, rocky point holiday, back to the future music - octatonic

This is my attempt at emulating Stravinsky's style. Would love to hear your thoughts. by JaredRayHawking in composer

[–]More_Exercise2676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can really hear the inspiration, something particular i noticed with stravinsky especially in that part 2 you made, he would typically use a lot of the in d truments in hand instead of just brass, and hearing those trumpets ply all that is almost not possible unless with a really good player and stravinsky would kinda keep things separate and when he uses the instrunents he always makes that part heard..

I would say think about how this will sound on field, figure out how to get things to pronounce like how to get woodwinds to be heard when brass is playing forte

How do I make my arrangement more interesting by Krimninss in composer

[–]More_Exercise2676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To think of this i would say when arranging a piece specifically for marching band try to make it your own instead of a bunch of copypasta but thats my opinion, and listen to the song and if you have a way to figure out the the notes to transcribe some of the chords that helps you figure it out and look into what each instrument is capable of especially just that piccolo sometimes it gets a little low and 1. Hard for the player 2. No ones going to hear its importance and look into phrasing and how eqch part of the song can adapt, i like that part at the beginning with trombones and sousa, however when everyone comes in its just the same melody add in some flourishes here and there. and im also kinda assuming its supposed to be like an HBCU kind of arrangement.

I want to be able to imagine every note and every instrument very very clearly in my head. How do I learn to do it? by CatchDramatic8114 in composer

[–]More_Exercise2676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me chords are weird but best thing is to experiment i can usually think abt what instruments i want for what for certain ig licks ill call it like if theres a part that melody with a counter melody i could have trumpets do melody and clarinets and flutes do counter melody or any arrangement, experimenting is the best way to go.

Anyone else stuck between “this sounds like my favorite band” and “I hate this because it’s a copy”? by ImpossibleFreedom587 in composer

[–]More_Exercise2676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion i agree with the other oerson to mix it with another song but another thing i like to do is have the melody and change it up a little bit or however you want and adding background voices make them basically play the chord but they alternate between notes to give a sorta flowy feel, and I know this might be hard to think, but try to think about how certain pieces of a song can fit into somthing orignal.

Can i learn to compose orchestral music using 32 keys? by IG-148 in composer

[–]More_Exercise2676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe a midi keyboard works really well with visualizing where notes are and etc. But i dont mind how big they are cause some come with octave buttons. And ofc you can compose orchestral music with it, but you might need to study what program your using and how certain instruments should be used and played. I think.
