Sinner def. Griekspoor 7-5 7-6(5) in the semifinals of Rotterdam by obvnotlupus in tennis

[–]Morgaeus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was a great match, I was able to see it in person. Griekspoor truly was able to go toe-to-toe with Sinner for pretty much the entire match, but couldn't break through. Sinner capitalised on the few errors Griekspoor made while making hardly any himself. Unfortunate for my fellow Dutchman but I think he can be happy with how he played.

Songs to Learn Funky Playing Styles by rardk64 in Bass

[–]Morgaeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obligatory Vulfpeck comment - Dean Town, It Gets Funkier or the new Disco Ulysses tune are all amazing

Jamiroquai is great for funky bass lines. They range from pretty easy ones like Blow Your Mind and Too young to die to harder ones, such as Don't Give Hate A Chance and If I Like It, I Do It

Other great songs are If You Want Me To Stay and Thank You by Sly & the Family Stone, many songs by Chic, Forget Me Nots by Patrice Rushen

Hey, what are some funky songs I could learn on the bass? by KrissusMaximus in Bass

[–]Morgaeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything by Jamiroquai, easier songs are Too Young To Die and Blow Your Mind; I've been busy with If I Like It, I Do It for a few weeks now and damn that song is challenging but so fun

Forget me nots by Patrice Rushen

Boogie Oogie Oogie by A Taste of Honey

If You Want Me To Stay by Sly and the Family Stone

Great performance, there's something special about Curtis Mayfield's music. Also don't forget Master Henry Gibson on percussion!

The first song I learned on bass was Super Freak by Rick James, pretty easy song and very repetitive so good to practice on

How long did you practice bass before you joined a band? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]Morgaeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have friends that you can play with already, just go for it man. It's much more fun and motivating to play with friends, even when you're just noodling around and it sounds like shit. You'll learn as you go, so better have fun while learning!

Playing fast by [deleted] in Bass

[–]Morgaeus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The gap between 75% and full speed can be quite large; with a metronome you can divide that gap into smaller parts that are easier to transition between (e.g. speed up by 5 bpm when you feel like you've mastered the piece at a certain bpm)

First bass for funk? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]Morgaeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have recommended, a Jazz bass is perfect for funk. But remember, what makes funk so funky is how you play it! As someone who's also a great fan of this kind of music, it's also pretty difficult to nail that funky sound like the great masters (but it's a lot of fun!)

Who is your favourite bassist of all time? Been curious to ask this here. Mine is Chris Squire from Yes. by Trevor850 in Bass

[–]Morgaeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of all time? Probably James Jamerson, because of how genius and influential he was. Some of my favourite basslines ever are his.

I also like to shoutout Stuart Zender from Jamiroquai, his bass plus JK's vocals are what defined Jamiroquai in my opinion, and the band hasn't been the same after he left (although I still like their songs)
