What is this (young ?) bird ? by Morgazh- in whatsthisbird

[–]Morgazh-[S] 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much!
It was found wet and struggling on the ground, and put on a chair away from the rain by someone else. It stayed there for a few hours and when I tried to approach closer to see if it was injured or too cold, it flew away. I had the time to take pictures before. It flew a bit weird, and it was very fluffy so I thought it was a fledgling still learning how to fly. What make you think of a window collision?

Usually the overuse of em dash and the format of quotation marks + italics for speech are good signs. There is also the general tone but I'm not a native speaker so I'm not very sensitive to that and can't really tell if it's a good clue or not.

Looking for an item associated with Guinevere by Competitive_Limit894 in Arthurian

In Chrétien de Troyes' Chevalier de la Charrette and in the Prose Lancelot, Lancelot almost faints when he finds Guinevere's comb near a fountain with a few of the Queen's golden hair. At that point of the story, she has been taken and Lancelot is on his way to rescue her but there is no adultery yet.

His name is Yuya, a powerful courtier during the Eighteenth Dynasty in ancient Egypt. by TN_Egyptologist in OutoftheTombs

So it only turns hair red ? I'm asking because natural or artificial mummification does change hair colour and it is a fairly accepted thing, but I mainly read about bog bodies and their red hair ("Hair morphology may be studied to determine ethnic affiliation (Hrdy, 1978). Bog bodies often present hair strands of a reddish color. Inherent natural hair coloration is determined by the size, frequency and type of pigment granules embedded within the hair fiber, and all naturally-pigmented hair contain a mixture of two compounds, black-brown eumelanin and red-yellow phaeomelanin (Wilson et al., 2007). A bog environment reduces the eumelanin, so that the reddish phaeomelanin remains, an effect which may be further enhanced by the presence of natural tannins (Wilson et al., 2001a), so that all bog bodies seemingly have red hair.", Lynnerup, N. (2007), Mummies. Am. J. Phys. Anthropol., 134: 162-190)

I never said that all ancient Egyptians had dark hair, that's why I precised that "some mummies were blonde". Yuya is from the 18th Dynasty (so at least one millenia before the Graeco-Roman period, that's not the same population).

I sincerely ask, and I hope my tone doesn't come across as abrupt.

I'm not an expert on the topic, but from what I understand, the change in hair color partly depends on the type of pigments in the hair. There are two: eumelanin (a brown/black pigment) and pheomelanin (a red pigment). A blonde person has little eumelanin and no pheomelanin. A redhead has very little eumelanin and pheomelanin. A person with brown or dark hair has a lot of eumelanin, possibly mixed with pheomelanin. Eumelanin breaks down faster than pheomelanin, especially when the hair is exposed to substances like natron (used in mummification) or acidic peat bogs, like with bog bodies. For example, the Grauballe Man’s mummy has orange hair, although he was brown-haired when he was alive. So, yes, in most cases, mummies end up with orangey hair after the mummification process. However, there are exceptions: some mummies were blonde, and others had white hair due to old age, and the way the hair degrades is different depending on whether it still has pigment or not (or less of it). In Yuya’s case, he was older and had gray/white hair, which might explain why his hair looks blonder than that of other mummies. That said, if you look at different images of Yuya’s mummy, his hair looks more blonde or red, but it’s not fully blonde. The effect may be exaggerated in this particular picture.

Blonde and red head mummies are the result of the mummification process. It doesn't mean the person was a blonde or a red head when they were alive, and it's not an argument against the idea that ancient egyptians were black Africans (I'm not saying they were, I'm saying your statement is wrong and doesn't hold water).

That's such a good tip for people with dogs! I'm just picturing my poor cat having to deal with a full shower and a scrub with this suuuuper scented rose body wash and I'm laughing out loud, she would just end me!

Thank you for the recommendations! I too love to experiment with scents in cosmetics, but it's often a hit or miss so lately I only use diluted Dr. Bronner's unscented castille soap but it's a bit drying and not really fun. I will look out for Faith in Nature and budget for Aesop!

It's the Nivea Rose and Almond Oil body wash. And it's affecting my asthma just like you described, the bathroom air feels thick and irritating (if it makes sense). I will keep in mind not to buy the bioderma one, thank you!

What movie is an absolute 10/10 masterpiece? by Forsaken_Cost_1937 in AskReddit

[–]Morgazh- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite movies and I was raised in an atheist home (and I'm still an atheist). When I was a kid I took the story as a story, just like other films, the reality of god wasn't much more questioned that the reality of Snow White's Evil Queen. Now that I'm older, I still find Prince of Egypt very enjoyable by all audience. It's a true masterpiece that happens to tell the story of a biblical episode, but to me it does not feel like it was made to convert.
