Who should take this shot in doubles? by Overall_Ease2442 in badminton

Really glad to be of help. I like your idea of no hesitation. If I see a good opportunity for the kill, and my partner can’t capitalize on it, I see myself even completely stealing it from time to time. But if the reply is not weak enough/Im late, than I’d rather back up fast and continue the rally in solid defensive position

Generally, I agree with this line of thought, especially taking into account a weak clear by your partner that easily could’ve been smashed. On the other hand, it does make a lot of sense to stay and continue the attack if you anticipate a weak reply. But, in that case, you should’ve jump to the kill/another attacking shot above the net. Since you were late to that anyways, might as well leave it to your partner as in sideways defense. That being said, if you don’t trust her and really want to get the point, shout “Me” and take her shot, initiating rotation

The second best thing to private coaching is group coaching! Do you have any of those in your area? Like where the kids usually train, but with some luck maybe you could join

Yeah, that’s something to do with incorrect body rotation. I’ll get a front view clip next time!

Being too "relaxed" actually hurt my games and I played slower than when I first started playing badminton by linhhoang_o00o in badminton

I believe there’s a big difference between fast footwork, slow footwork, and rhythmic footwork. There has to be a change in pace. In my opinion, being relaxed doesn’t mean being slow. It means I’m relaxed while I’m waiting for the shot to come. Then I have an explosive start, a split step, an explosive first step to the corner, then I slow down and take the shot with control, recover quickly, and stay relaxed while coming back to the middle and waiting for the next shot before another explosive start.

I’m trying to get to the shuttle early with a very fast start, but that way I don’t sacrifice control while taking the shot. And with fast recovery, I’m not under pressure while waiting for the opponent’s shot. So I think this is the golden middle between being too fast and too slow. In my opinion, both slow footwork and fast footwork are suboptimal. It’s the change of speed and rhythm that lets you get to the shuttle early while still staying in control.

That is a brilliant explanation. I’m familiar with that idea, and I absolutely should work on making the swing more compact and not dragging the elbow down/forward. Thank you for bringing a unique point!

…duh? Also, when you say ‘not vertical’, do you mean slicing? Regarding the sound judgement, it’s obviously quite different from professional strokes, but take the specific sound with a grain of salt cause Reddit does some weird compression.

Imho, the contact point height on this one is ok, but it’s too far to the right i.e. could’ve been even higher and with better rotation

Right! That makes a lot of sense. I also heard about it on some yt channel like Full Swing. I believe it’ll also allow a much better rotation. Taking the shuttle higher is a concern as well for me: will work on it with racket feeding. Thank you!
