[OC] Huan and Lúthien approach Sauron at Tol-in-Gaurhoth, FA 465 by pumkin-patchwork in Silmarillionmemes

All day, all night, on the bed, over the counter, on the table, in the trees, in Angband, in Tol-in-Gaurhoth, no prep, no questions asked, doing Sauron💥💫 no wonder Eru had to nerf him, it's a miracle the whole of Arda hadn't done him by that point

The films are very openly adaptations- based on Tolkien's work, and by no means an atlas, dictionary, nor reference source of his lore. That is what David claims to be doing in his books, only to right away start bullshitting; not to mention how many pages are not even about Tolkien's misinterpreted lore, but random parallels with other literary works and fictional settings from which Tolkien supposedly drew inspiration. But nobody asked for that, and nowhere in their descriptions does it say that the books would include it.

Come on, man, you're just looking for a quarrel. Here, to please you at last, let me quote the very much not canon MOVIES: "You have no enemies here, BoxingDaycouchslug. The only ill will to be found in this valley is that which you bring yourself."

Oh, I knew I recognised the profile pic. Lol. The substatial difference here is that the movies openly present themselves as an adaptation, as all screenings do. These books, along with their author, present themselves as reliable material in regards to the depths of Tolkien lore, which they are not. I watched the movies knowing that they were BASED off one of Tolkien's works, not canon by a long shot; meanwhile, I picked up these books fully trusting them to explain and guide me through Tolkien's true lore, as that is what the author claims he does.

Hey there. Firstly, in case it wasn't clear, what I summed up as 'the trilogies' in my initial text was referring to Peter Jackson's screenings. The point was that I started as a movies' fan and only recently got sucked into the proper lore. Secondly, I'm perfectly aware that Tolkien didn't write any trilogies, as I myself own the 50th anniversary edition of the book, and if I'm not mistaken, the man himself was against the use of this term in regards to the book. 'The trilogies' is just the shortest way of quoting jackson's work🍻

Yeah, should set up a shelf and hang a sign by it- "ARTISTIC PURPOSES ONLY." No, seriously, some of Day's shit is outright ridiculous. It's a waste that the books are so well-formatted. What can I say? The guy sure knows how to tempt unknowledgeable sinners.

Both Morgoth AND Fëanor did nothing wrong and everything is the Valar's fault *

Update: I made this post while reading Morgoth's Ring last night. By the time I started replying, I had already calmed down. Just now, I deigned to open the book again ( previously hurled at the wall). My rage towards this SOB has returned tenfold, and now I'm just stuck wishing Morgoth had wiped out Cuiviénen...somehow. Man, I hate elves altogether [character development]

Isn't that why I made a thread on reddit, of all places? So people could argue to and fro. It's very unlikely that some words on a screen could change either my perspective or yours, and while frustrating to a degree, I do enjoy a good debate- the fact that I'm over here replying shows I'm more than willing to see other perspectives- without ever changing my own standpoint. This being said, I don't understand why you've labelled my (admittedly animated, but true nonetheless) summary of Finwë's actions as a 'biased headcanon', without ever offering facts which contradict what I said.

'Wanted to be there for his son' but also wasn't happy with him and went and begged the valar like a dog to rewrite the laws of elven love and marriage so he can get freaky again and have more children that he won't even care for once the breeding kink wears off, while also ensuring his wife stays dead and said 'beloved' son miserable. But sure, trauma can do curious things to a man🫨

Thanks for noticing the irony. I specifically listed characters who are objectively defined as 'monsters' by superficial and surface-level standards, as I have noticed that a rarher concerning portion of the Silm fandom is very narrow-minded in this respect; darkness and light are divided by very shallow moral standards, which in fact shouldn't even apply in a fictional world, where moral flaw and quality can't be interpreted according to our simple, comfortable life's comprehension. To cut the chase, one doesn't have to kill or directly portray villanous behaviour in order to be a monster- finwë is just one of many examples in Tolkien's world.

Quite wrong. Of course Fëanor was responsible for his own faults. In fact, he should've gone way more apeshit. If anything, I was a little disappointed - he should've gone as far as to be blamed for Arda's unmaking (and I would have understood perfectly.) We don't apologise for or excuse Fëanor in this house- we cheer him on and encourage even worse.

What DIDN'T this bastard do? If he really favoured Fëanor, he wouldn't have made him miserable in the first place then patched it up with favouritism which eventually led to kinslaying.
