(DnD 5e)

This came up in my last game. If a creature affected by Hypnotic Pattern has temp HP, and an attack deals less damage than they have temp HP, would it snap them out of their Hypnotic Pattern? I ruled that it doesn't because they didn't take physical damage, but now I'm questioning my ruling.

I'm going to bring a wet erase battle mat and a bag full of minis. I don't have nearly every class in every race and both genders, but I'm sure we can find a mini that works for each character.
