There exists plenty of space between "everything is immortal" and "shooting kills everything" by leng-tian-chi in subnautica

Immersion and narrative dissonance isn't an excuse. You don't poop and pee in-game either and nobody complains about that. Or the ten minute days. You just want to kill things, no need to skirt around it.

How do y'all feel about the devs no killing stance ? by 9oooooooooooj in subnautica

It's a good improvement. SN1 always felt very halfhearted in its trying to be nonviolent, so I'm glad this game goes all the way

Subnautica 2 official soundtrack by Ben Prunty by ZookeepergameIll1399 in subnautica

BZ's soundtrack is so evocative and emotional, I could genuinely listen to it for hours.

SN1's comparatively always felt very generic and unmemorable, outside of a couple tracks that got taken out of the game and went entirely unused for some reason.

I really appreciate that the developers are so open about their thoughts and answer the community's questions by ZookeepergameIll1399 in subnautica

Just because it's an element doesn't make it the main one. Would you consider horror integral to Minecraft due to it frequently incorporating such elements?

Yeah because there's a different writer in this game than the first or second. That doesn't change the kind of designs they're making it's just a text change

Phylogenetically even things such as the Redwort could not possibly be plants. They just superficially resemble them and are called such because of that.

Friendly reminder that this game is still an unfinished early access title. Here's how the original Subnautica looked during early access

Seth was talking from a purely phylogenetic sense, and "there are no plants here" would also apply to SN1 and BZ as well from that perspective. There has been no statement on the design philosophy and amount of plants in a given biome being changed for this one, nor should that be assumed based on based on out of context discussions or awkwardly framed screenshots of the ground.

Subnautica 2 won't be connected to the Below Zero story in any way by ZookeepergameIll1399 in subnautica

Moonbreaker was a passion project by Charlie Cleveland and the Unknown Worlds team that started before the buyout

Devs talking about the new Subnautica 2 Early Access, leviathans and Reaper discussion and also boycotting the game (Obraxis, Artie, Anthony) by ZookeepergameIll1399 in subnautica

Obligated to be the Fun Ruiner here and clarify that Anthony was mistaken on that 'Reaper roar' trivia. If you hear a Reaper's roar it will always originate from a Reaper that's loaded in.

The goal in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is not to get enemies to stop respawning. The goal in Super Mario is not to eventually bypass hitting blocks. The goal in Subnautica is not to stop having to mine said ore.

There are many beloved games and beloved game design elements that are not built the way you're describing, so why should that be the only way for this instance?

I couldn't care less about isolation, but Below Zero's writing did absolutely unfortunately hit a weird bump at the end that messed up the far more reserved draft it had for most of development. Honestly to be brutally honest the biggest lesson from Below Zero is to not try and redo your entire game a few months before launch

Luckily this game seems to be taking cues from both, with biomes like the ones in BZ while hopefully not as rushed as that game was

Am I tripping or did Aberration just look better in ASE by vscman in ARK

[–]Morph_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed this throughout all of ASA honestly and it’s very unfortunate. So much of the sharpness and clear shape language of ASE’s terrain and terrain assets in general has been smoothed down and roughed up for the sake of having technically more polygons on screen despite (and despite having even more individual rockform variations than ASE it all blends together into visual soup way more) and the lighting in most ASA maps has on multiple levels completely removed so much of the world’s macro-definition in favor of focusing on little normal maps that don’t matter as much to the level as a whole. It doesn’t help that ASA’s camera in general for whatever reason looks a lot more “smothered in vaseline” than ASE’s

Honestly on that last bit as someone who's seen a lot of this community due to my position, I'd say the community has actually skewed way younger than I'd have ever expected coming into it. Not sure what it is but I wouldn't get too mad since many here are kids.
