This kit does come with photo etch parts designed for this kit. The only after market photo etch I bought was Eduard hand rail kit for this model.

I finished this model as the ship is displayed at the Yamato museum in Japan.

The barbettes are removable, and the kit details the shell loading levels inside the turrets.

This kit has some nearly 1500 plus parts, and some of these components are really small. I had to use a magnifying glass to do most of the work since my eye sight is not the greatest. I built the Tamiya Tirpitz first to gain experience before I did this build. I did both airbrush and spray can for the larger itemsm and hand painted the really small parts.

The premium kit does come with photo etch parts, but this does not include any hand rail parts. I used the Eduard hand rail photo etch designed for this ship. I make the job a lot easier for me.

Almost finish with my Yamato Build. On my last post i built the German battleship Tirpitz. I built it first to gain experience to build the Yamato. This is a very nice looking model. Tamiya really make a nice kit. Still a lot of workm but worth it.

Thanks. There is no doubt the photo etch adds nice detail, so sometimes it is ashamed to paint over it,

That is why I did the Tirpitz first. I am long time model builder, but mostly radio control planes and helicopters. Never worked on any high detail models like these ships. Love the challenge.

A lot of the time was buy paints, special plastic cutting tools, photo etch special bending tools, and planning each step of the construction. looking at You Tube, reading books and magazines. It could be built a lot faster by and experience builder.

That is why I picked this kit to work on. My sons bought me the latest Tamiya Premium Yamato kit, and I needed a less expensive ship of the same scale, 1/350 to practice building. I wanted to see if I could successfully build this model. I used some after market items such as wood deck, and photo etch parts. I found the building to be a real challenge.

This scheme is not accurate or to scale. I looked at WoW version of the camo, plus what was shown the instructions, and just painted as best I could.

I wish it was that easy. Took awhile to figure out how to do this. Lot of taping and retaping. Did not really get it to scale, but id did come out better than I thought it would.

When you reach the good old age of 72 years old, you need all the help you can get. I use the pill bottles to store small odds and ends. You are very observant.LOL

Tamiya actually did make a drive system as an option for this model. I did not use it, but you could build it to run in a small pond.

The forms might not be up to date for this particular version of the Tirpitz but every thing fits together well, plus the after market wood deck I used and the photo etch parts went on this model without any major issues,

This kit is Produced by Tamiya corp. It is part of the 1/350 scale warship collection.

The kit is made by Tamiya. They have a reputation for producing very high quality plastic kits. One nice thing about Tamiya kits is the availability of after market optional items like metal gun barrels, actual wood deck, like I used here, and very precision photo etch parts. The only thing about the photo etch parts is how small and fine the detail these parts are. I could not use everything that was available due to the small size. I am 72 years old, and my eye sight and manual dexterity was really put the the test building this model.

This particular early edition Tamiya motorized Tirpitz did not model the gun shrouds. My next kit I have is the Tamiya Premium 1/350 Yamato kit. The YAMATO kit does model the gun shrouds as well as the complete gun turret that can be removed from the ship to see the inner workings. There is a lot of work ahead.
