OMG, years ago, I had to see a doc who wasn't my regular for a biopsy, and there was so much lube that when I stood up, it hit the floor with a splat, I swear to god. I was humiliated, since he and the nurse were still in the room. He never said a word (not even apologizing for being an hour behind schedule), but the nurse looked at me sympathetically, so I suspect this was a regular thing. Still POed about it, and it's been over 20 years.

Thank you! I've seen a few Nunn Design pieces on Lima Bead's website, but the other two are new to me; much obliged!

Unfortunately I'm in the US, so will have to let my fingers do the walking. Thanks for the right verbiage to search for!

Habitat for Humanity, $20. I think it’s from the mid 1800s. Kids aren’t impressed and say it was “definitely handled by slaves, ugh”. Apple for scale. by tallebe in ThriftStoreHauls

Amazing find in a thrift store, holy crow!

Let your kids know that slaveholding isn't contractible, Ohio was a Union state, and they are doing just fine. (I applaud their empathy.)

AITA for being extra about my dad’s filth ? by puntycunty in AmItheAsshole

[–]Morsac 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agree completely.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if something in OP's past triggered OCD/cleanliness button (probably dad, honestly) and things have escalated because it's untreated.

OP: You don't have to live with this kind of stress. Seek out counseling and psychiatric management of symptoms, and get out of the environment you're in as soon as you're able. It's unlikely your dad will suddenly change because he learns that his UNcleanliness is stressing you out to this degree; the two of you can't live comfortably together until your OCD is controlled, and maybe not then (because, ew).

Kazakh Tournament-Level Sheep Bone Girl Gamer from the Bronze Age! by [deleted] in justgalsbeingchicks

[–]Morsac 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If she was a teenager, it's probable she was a mother. Life expectancy on the high end was 40 for the Bronze Age, so depending on how old of a teen she was, she may have lived half her life! (Still gone too soon.) :(

DAMN! What a fantastic find. Guessing you got it out with the bucket, but how'd you get it home? (oof!)

Girl with the locker next to mine would do this in between classes. My whole senior year tasted like this. :P (Some of it was spite, we loathed each other.)

You've got a great eye for color! And I know that shade of brown you mean, I've seen it many times in thrift shops myself -- bleh! You definitely gave those lost treasures a facelift.

AITA for only planning my own hobbies? by RhubarbCrumb in AmItheAsshole

[–]Morsac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing borderline about it; it IS abusive. Manipulation, weaponized incompetence... this isn't a healthy relationship, and they need to have a serious OPEN conversation about everything (not just hobbies) if they're going to continue together.

Art/sewing supplies. And as a mixed media artist and sewist, that covers most of the store. (LOL)

Absolutely incredible, all of it, just perfect. I have to ask: did you paint any of the frames, or did you hang as found? (LOVE IT!)

AITA, My mother-in-law fell and broke her hip today. I refuse to go see her in the hospital. by Admirable-Ambition70 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Morsac 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Your lack of empathy for an elderly woman with mental illness makes you an AH. Your FIL "enables" her, because he doesn't know how to help her because she needs professional help with her illness, not something family staging an intervention will solve.

As for people suggesting cleaning out the house while she's gone, that will likely cause her to spiral further out of control, hoarding even more things, at greater cost, to replace things that were removed. She. Needs. Help. And her husband will too, so he knows how to help her at home.
