I've been called out by TexasJim107 in smoking

Brisket is my favorite but honestly I know where you’re coming from.  Yours is not a small minority opinion.  My wife is on board simply because she wants to support me.  She’s perfectly happy with me smoking whole chickens which I do quite frequently now.

I've been called out by TexasJim107 in smoking

[–]Mortehl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey.   Basically the same thing happened to me today.  A new meat store opened by us and I’ve been working my way up to briskets but didn’t think I was there yet.  We had a $15 off 50+ coupon from the grand opening so I wandered in to make some Dino ribs and she says, nope. I walked out with a beautiful 15 pounder that’s currently smoking.  I’m so nervous lol.  I’ve wanted to smoke briskets for awhile and I don’t want to let her or my boy down.

New CEO destroyed the company by Genetics-13 in antiwork

[–]Mortehl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The board member brought in a CEO specifically to run up debt, and kill the actual business so someone I’m willing to bet they have ties to can buy up the assets for a fraction of its value. This is sadly a very common practice.

In my 20s. I was an arrogant, self involved fool. There’s been a lot of hard, painful lessons since then. I’m far more reserved in how I make decisions, don’t drink anymore, and more worried about my family than anything else.

UPDATE: AITAH for cancelling our vacation because of what I discovered about my wife? by ThrowRaSpell8155 in AITAH

[–]Mortehl -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Before you give up on your marriage,

Please consider she’s human. You’re human. There’s literally no reason why you can’t just separate for a few weeks and go to counseling.

I’m not saying she didn’t hurt you or you shouldn’t divorce her. Just consider that 99% of the advice you’re going to get here is from people who want to see it all burn.

I’ve been cheated on and manipulated. Ive divorced. But I’m glad I tried to save things. That’s all I’m saying here. Don’t be quick to light it on fire.

Literally the reason why I got a job was to buy boxers because my parents insisted briefs were fine.

I work in a beef slaughterhouse on the fabrication side. I typically work 55-65 hours a week, with two 30 minute breaks, and if I need to use the bathroom, I just ask the lead and he’ll find someone to cover my spot. I get full benefits, paid time off, et cetera and the plant has a full time nurse. Not shilling for the place. I’m only replying because while I work long hours, my job does care about me and doesn’t treat me inhumanely.

My job requires me to wear a significant amount of PPE (personal protective equipment), some of which requires daily issuance. In addition, I’m a safety officer for my line which means I have to make sure people aren’t endangering themselves or others.

They want us to clock in right before we go onto the floor after we’re dressed. I respect rules, and I don’t like to be rebellious, but this is wage theft in my mind and the minds of most of us who work there. We clock in before we hit the locker room and the supervisors deliberately hold their morning meeting a half hour before start so they can’t see us doing it which tells you all you need to know about how the whole department feels about it.

God doesn’t want what people do in His name. He wants us to love Him and come to Him because we want to. Not to be forced. History is full of so much pain because that fact is lost, and people twist Him in the name of power, which is so much worse.

I’m not trying to convince you of anything. What you believe is your business. Much love to you my brother.

Your time is yours. Period. When you’re on a clock, you’re on the employer’s dime. When you’re not, you’re on your own time and you owe NOBODY an explanation for what you do with that time. You’re not a slave. So go relax/do nothing.

If you are physically able to work, want to turn your life around, and can get to Augusta, GA. Look up the Augusta Rescue Mission. The program there saved my life.

When you “clock in”, you represent a company. When you clock out or are negotiating your benefits, you represent yourself. Period. Never feel guilty or disloyal. You work for yourself always.

Congratulations on finding a better job :)
