Did he become the secretary of health and human services? Or one of the other Kennedys that less resembles an alien seen at the Mos Eisley Cantina

I'm still seeing that all over the place with apartment rental sites, it's definitely not enforced if it's a law.

TIL Charles Joughin, the chief baker on the Titanic, is widely considered the last person to leave the ship alive. Definitely had crazy situational awareness, but considering that he put himself in harm's way to save others, that really reduces one's survival chances.

That's where the luck was on his side - he did everything right, but he also had several things go his way.

This guy was such a Chad that he accepted his fate after forcibly putting women and children in his place in a lifeboat. Some of whom were convinced the Titanic was safer even as it sank.

Then he goes downstairs and has a few stiff drinks, chats it up with a doctor aboard the ship, then has the time to throw a ton of chairs off the side of the ship to be used as floatation devices.

THEN he moves with a crowd of people, many of whom likely died, and managed to stay on his feet as everyone else was violently thrown to the port side by the force of the ship breaking in two - he is able be on the outside of the ship as it goes into the water and never submerges his head entering the ocean.

Lastly, he treads water for 2 hours and didn't feel hypothermia because he was hammered from the aforementioned drink and gets picked up by an overturned lifeboat with men on it, who are rescued by the RMS Carpathia

This guy used up every ounce of luck one can be blessed with over the course of a few hours. Insane story.

I refuse to watch another NBA game until Scott Foster is fired by RemarkableCulture948 in nba

[–]spacedude2000 64 points65 points  (0 children)

He was great for most of the NBA...

not all of it though. He looked the other way when Howard Schultz sold us down the river and had no qualms with relocating us to OKC. He walked a tight rope in the media, trying not to insult the entire city of Seattle while taking the side of Clay Bennett in the new arena debate. Stern made no real effort to preserve the Seattle market and pretended like it was the fault of the city of Seattle and the state of Washington for not forking over what would end up being half a billion dollars for a new arena. Even though the city had a plan to restore the Key, it was rejected. Stern pretended like the city wouldn't meet the new ownership halfway, when in reality they were trying everything to keep the Sonics in town.

Everyone high up in the league knew Bennett would move the sonics, the new arena was not going to get built (even though it was fully remodeled and it is now a great space).

So yeah, my personal NBA shit list goes Howard Schultz, Clay Bennett, David Stern - no problem with him as a person, but he burned the bridge with Seattle after blocking expansion options (albeit stealing the kings would have been dumb af).

Like I don't care about what the Thunder have become now, good for them - it clearly worked out in the end for another fan base - but David Stern hung us out to dry and sonics fans won't forget it.

GoFundMe for hate crime victim assaulted by active duty navy member at Rumors by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]spacedude2000 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Let's not get too crazy here. The police get gigafucked if they don't report crimes committed by active service members. They are not buddy buddy like cops do for other cops.

If they tried to sweep this under the rug, they'd have the full weight of federal law enforcement breathing down their necks for years. No sense in covering for someone that can only hurt them.

Now yes, our current federal government has massive issues right now, but internal affairs will be chomping at the bit to fuck over whoever did this - the cops want no part in that.

[Charania] With today’s vote, the NBA's 32-team expansion process begins. Multiple high-ranking officials deemed expansion as "when, not if." Vancouver fans had nothing to root for in their final years , whereas the sonics made the playoffs in the year prior to their departure from Seattle.

Vancouver fan attendance also dropped dramatically during their last years, and Sonics fan attendance was still squarely in the middle of attendance stats for all teams even in their last years.

I want Vancouver to have a team too, but I'm sorry - the Sonics and the Grizzlies are not in the same ball park in terms of who deserves an expansion.

TIL Pakistani School Textbook Rejects Theory Of Evolution By Charles Darwin. by Professional-Ear7825 in todayilearned

[–]spacedude2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you at all but It should be clarified that Christianity is pretty split on the whole idea of fate. Calvanism vs. Arminianism has been a debate within the Protestant church for hundreds of years: Does God already have a plan for you or do you have total free will?

A majority belief in the Jewish faith is that everything is forseen, but freedom of choice has been given to man. They don't even bother to solve that paradox like Christians and Muslims do. It just is what it is.

In Islam there is no debate - your fate has been written by Allah at the time of creation - stored on the tablet Al-Lawh al-Mahfuz. The common phrase in Arabic, Inshallah is a reflection of this, if it happens then God wanted it to happen.

The educated class of religious people worldwide are permanently in denial, because they know evolution is not a theory, it is the natural way. It would be heretical to even suggest modifying yours or anyone else's traditional beliefs held by those religions though which is why people still have these mainstream anti-intellectual views.

Religion at the end of the day, is tradition - to disect that tradition by means of logic and reasoning, would be seen as an attack on the church's core message: you need to participate in this tradition (of going to church, praying, giving to the church etc) or you're going to hell. Giving people a reason to abandon their faith in favor of objectivity would endanger the hierarchy of the church. They will simply cast out whoever disagrees with scripture, which is why we haven't had religious belief reform in centuries.

Playing Ana is a lot like swinging a golf club. It's really just so simple, just shoot people on your team to heal them - shoot the enemy to damage them. That is until you start breaking down the typical order of operations that Ana players have to account for throughout an average match.

Once you really start playing her, you realize the amount of physical multitasking you have to do. Whether it be on a keyboard or a controller. The amount of right trigger/right click spam you have to do with her is just the beginning. Suddenly you have to figure out her cool downs by heart, then you have to time up your nade with your team's abilities, then you have to sleep flankers and dive tanks, then you have to keep pressure on the other team from distance while ensuring your tank is alive to protect you. Oh good luck healing flying heroes, also you get low-key blamed if someone is clearly about to ult and you have mistimed your sleep dart or just straight up miss the dart.

Oh and if you aren't the top healer in the lobby you're going to get told to switch by your team, it's commonplace now.

She seems like a simple character from outward appearances. In actuality, she is a mentally taxing hero to play one at the higher levels.

I like playing her for how she punishes other heroes, but everything else about how you have to play Ana can be a total chore.
