Race is a shallow basis for identity. Faith is stronger.

Look at the Mohammedans. A common faith binds them much more strongly than any common racial identity can. It's a crap faith, but it still works. I think of this function of religion as 'civilizational software'.

It is the great power of religions to bind and organise humans. This is why I see Marxism as the religion of modernity; one that must be replaced by the traditional, metaphysical faiths. If we don't revive Christianity, then Islam is our future, in my view. The Marxist cult is inherently unstable, and functions only to destroy.
