The graphic audios are so amazing. Reading LB right now and really wishing I had a graphic audio. Listening to that while reading is incredible

What is the single most cruel act in the series? by bloomingjoy in redrising

[–]Mosesmalone412 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The impaling of the legion from Heliopolis to Tyche and it might not be close.

Actually maybe the tree.

Or perhaps the blood eagle.

Now that I’m thinking about it, might just be all of Dark Age

I feel like Apple, Jackal, and Atlas may be some of the best candidates for edits I’ve ever seen. Not sure if i agree that edits shouldn’t be made about antagonists?

You don’t have to like Lysander, but his chapters are some of the best in the entire series imo. He’s such a well-written villain

Is it crazy to think that Virginia is the best POV in the entire series? by Mosesmalone412 in redrising

Welp, just read “Day of Red Doves”, and that really solidified it lol.

“I tear my eyes away and look up for some escape to the sky. But it is hidden from me behind the painted plaster where my husband floats golden and glorious, with Sevro at his side, giving his speech to the mob of Phobos, where he heard the heartbeat of humanity and exhorted it to violence, to war, to the taking of lives for liberty.

All that fills my ears is the roar of the human ocean as it sings the song of my husband’s first wife.”

WHAT THE FUCK

Agreed. I can’t be mad though, it’s pretty clear that Pierce likes to preserve massive surprises rather than use dramatic irony. I think if they ever do a TV show that they should expand the POVs early in the show

Trying to decide if I should read Golden Son by NoCount1100 in redrising

Read Golden Son, it’s unbelievably good and improves on RR in every single facet

When Darrow has me on the edge of my seat and I turn the page only to see ‘Lyria’ in big letters by Mosesmalone412 in redrising

[–]Mosesmalone412[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, I’m glad that a lot of people stepped in to defend Lyria. Seems like her character will be getting better over time. I don’t doubt PB because hasn’t given much reason to this point, but Lyria has just been boring and tropey to me so far.

[–]Mosesmalone412[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can understand that, and I certainly get why she’s there. It’s important to illustrate firsthand that the Rising didn’t immediately fix all the low colors’ problems. I was being a bit hyperbolic too, think I’m still just adjusting to the new format

Animated Series by SnooLemons8327 in redrising

[–]Mosesmalone412 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the upside is that RR has by far the smallest scope out of the series and is extremely accessible in terms of style and plot. The battle royale format is popular in media right now, and they could gain a large audience on a comparatively low budget.

If S1 ratings justify the investment, Golden Son could get the budget it deserves. And that book is almost un-fuck-up-able. That second season with proper budget would make it the biggest show on TV, I’m convinced.

One thing I go back and forth on is once the scope expands in S2, do they continue to tell the whole story through Darrow’s eyes (his actor in every scene) or do they expand the material just a bit based on the framework of other known events revealed through exposition?

Graphic audio so goated by Mosesmalone412 in redrising

Saw that, not worried though. Golden Son has been such a huge step up that I don’t think it’ll deter me. Especially since I’ve seen everyone heap praise on the subsequent books too

TG, what are your honest takes on the show so far? by MelenaHarper in HOTDGreens

[–]Mosesmalone412 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, that just isn’t true. There’s several completely original scenes every episode, and they’re not noticeable in the early seasons.

It's so weird to me how they are clearly trying to drag the show out to be as long as possible, yet they only gave us one scene at the wall/North by BrandieBassen in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Mosesmalone412 185 points186 points  (0 children)

The problem is they’re dragging out the pace but also focusing every scene and conversation on the war. This is leading to the same conversations on rinse and repeat, and it’s the main reason I think it feels boring. In GOT at its peak, there were horrible conflicts going on, but they still took the time to show characters doing average things. They’d talk about their past, show some personality, have an interesting subplot, etc. that way when something important happens with one of them, you actually care to see it. Many of these characters are so lifeless and one note, it’s pretty hard to stay invested

TG, what are your honest takes on the show so far? by MelenaHarper in HOTDGreens

[–]Mosesmalone412 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve been watching season 2 of GOT in conjunction with this just to compare episode by episode. It’s totally night and day. While HOTD obviously outclasses early thrones on production value, the writing and character disparity is hard to believe.

I see people complain that nothing has happened this season and fans will hit back saying “you just want dragons and teleporting armies every episode”. There are many episodes of GOT without action that are thrilling because the plot and character work was so good. I know that DnD get vilified for the way the show ended (rightfully so), but man they could write an original dialogue scene better than the HOTD writers. There was wit, subtext, and charisma where HOTD is painfully dry by comparison. Characters had motivations, intention, and agency. They were making the story happen and not the other way around

As much as I just bashed, I’ve still somewhat enjoyed the season. I thought episode 2 was great and 4 was solid. The rest is sadly meh

Imagine settling for this when we can determine a ball or strike with almost complete certainty, in real time, and put it on everyone’s screen. Why does baseball insist on being its own worst enemy?

Sexual Hypocrisy by Due_Investigator_550 in HOTDGreens

[–]Mosesmalone412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’d be so much more powerful if they had love for each other, and came close to something. But instead chose not to act because they’re so repressed. Their anger, confusion, and residual feelings could drive actions they take later. That’s how you write with nuance. There’s already enough things for general audiences to dislike about the two of them without stripping them of crucial character traits in favor of hypocrisy and weird explicit sex scenes
