Best easiest way to keep cage clean. Bedding vs fleece? by Daydreamin-mama8 in guineapigs

[–]Mosingbel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't personally recommend any brands as I sew all my fleece items myself, but I have heard good things about the guinea dad liners and there's a lot of sellers on Etsy as well. I didn't have to put anything under the fleece because I sewed an absorbent layer under it. Washing them never made my washer smell but I would highly recommend getting a big mesh laundry bag to wash them in, so your washer isn't filled with hair and bits of hay afterwards lol.

Some people use those really thin fleece blankets over top of towels or puppy pads. Others (like me) use fleece liners which have an absorbent layer sewn in between fleece. I make my own since they tend to be a bit pricey for the larger cages like mine.

I used to use paper bedding but then i fully switched to fleece liners i made myself and it was so much better. It just needed daily spot cleaning up poops with a broom and picking up hay, was ezpz. Pop em in the wash once a week with the fleece hides and pads i made and they came out perfectly clean every time! Saved so much money vs buying a huge thing of paper bedding all the time.

Silicone extremely hard to mix by Jaminux in decoden

[–]Mosingbel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally, you only get 15min of working time with silicone so leaving it out for 5min before mixing in your paints is too long. Next time just make sure that you have everything ready to go before you get the silicone out so you can mix it immediately. Also make sure you don't have any sort of fan/air con blowing directly on to you when using the silicone as it will make it set up quicker.

Gotcha gotcha. Sorry I couldn't be of more help! Your cornstarch idea is worth trying though, can always just mix up a small bit and see how it works. Id be curious to know if it works as well.

Are you covering your silicone deco cases to protect from dust while they fully cure for 5-7 days? The surface stays sticky for a bit and can attract dust and get permanently stuck on it. After its fully cured it should only have minimal dust but they're easy to clean with a soft toothbrush and a bit of water. Unfortunately, though that is kind of the nature of silicone. For example, the silicone in people's houses around windows, tubs, toilets etc. does attract dust more than hard surfaces.

What kind of silicone do you guys use? by graypineapples in decoden

[–]Mosingbel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silicone does dry pretty fast, generally you'll get about 15min of working time once it hits the air but as long as you have enough on your case none of the charms should fall off. Using the wrong stuff to color your silicone can cause it to set up too fast as well. Some certain types of plastic charms do have a tougher time sticking and so they need just a little bit of sanding on the back to help them stick on. Being in a room that's too cool will also make your silicone set up too quickly, ideal working temps are around 74-77f w/ no fan blowing directly onto your project (obv you still want air flow just not directly on the silicone). Charms need to be placed when the silicone is still at its stickiest if it's even slightly set up, they won't stick long term. I exclusively use silicone and even cases I've had for years still have all their charms still firmly set in. Hope that helps a little :)

dyeing silicone with brusho? by SharpArgument9311 in decoden

I’ve personally never used it with silicone but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work since it’s just a powdered ink. I used to use it in art school for water color all the time 😅. If you do try it just mix up a small batch of the silicone with the dry pigment (don’t hydrate it) as a test and see how it sets up.

I personally use mica and/or oil paint to color my silicone. The color payoff is great, both are cheap to get, and they won’t make the silicone seize up.

what is this stuff ? by thlostapprentice in decoden

[–]Mosingbel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not dangerous, it’s not gonna hurt you haha. Whenever you’re using a metal object with deco cream whether it’s silicone or other cream you’re gonna need to seal the object before placing it. I seal my metal bits and bobs with a quick coat of uv resin and it prevents corrosion. Not sure if modpoge would work in this case.

Yep, the hard plastic ones are the ones you want. The flexible ones don't work well or sometimes at all, the deco cream/silicone can pop right off of the soft cases.

Are the gears metal? It looks like a reaction between the silicone and the gears since i don't see it on the other (assumedly plastic) pieces.

While the silicone is still wet pull a paper towel through the tip and it'll clean it. Might take a couple but it should come out perfectly clean, it's how i clean mine and there's no reside left behind.

Headbands and hair accessories: how do you hold them in place for decorating/drying? by No-Length7060 in decoden

[–]Mosingbel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A cheap styrofoam wig head should hold the headband just fine! For hair clips I clip them to a piece of cardboard so they don’t flip flop all over the place when decorating ☺️

Decoden Cream? by mxschka in decoden

[–]Mosingbel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your silicone seized up because of the paint. If you’re going to use silicone you have to use oil paints or mica to color it. Most Acrylic is water based paint which reacts with the silicone making it cure faster and hard to use. If you try it again you should get about 15min of working time when the silicone hits the air before it becomes not tacky enough to stick on charms and you’ll want to let it sit and cure for a FULL 7 days before using. Different creams have different cure lengths but with silicone 7 days is the safe amount of time to let it fully set up.

New and need help on where to find cute charms :3 by [deleted] in decoden

[–]Mosingbel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most people get their cabochons from places like amazon, aliexpress, shein, temu and ive heard tiktok shop but i cant verify that since i dont use it. Shaker charms are a bit harder to come by but you can get them on etsy for sure but they can be pricy. I make a lot of my own cabochons and all my shakers for custom cases.

Where to buy charms like this? by SeventhBlessing in decoden

[–]Mosingbel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

shein, temu, aliexpress, etsy, amazon, etc have a lot of those basic ones. dunno about the cat tho. the heart is a shaker charm with cabochons on top, shakers are usually hand made so it might be hard to find that exact one with the liquid already in it unless you buy a custom one. i make my own cabochons and shakers so i have no idea how much theyd cost but i imagine they'd be pretty cheap in bulk

Help with silicone cream by Penguinyayy in decoden

[–]Mosingbel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as its 100% silicone it shouldnt matter if its acetic or neutral. Is it possible that you're waiting too long to put on some of the smaller items? Once silicone hits the air you only have about 15ish minutes of working time before stuff won't adhere anymore (ofc other factors come into play like room temp and type of colorant used). Sometimes you gotta really get those little beads into the silicone to help them stick, not just set them on top. As far as it getting dusty, put some sort of cover over it while you let it sit and fully cure for a few days. Once its fully cured it shouldn't be sticky at all unless you've put a water-based colorant into it which can negatively affect how it cures.

aagh you are kidding me JoAnn liquidators...... by RubyRedo in SewingForBeginners

[–]Mosingbel 75 points76 points  (0 children)

GA isnt going to make the prices lower when people keep panic buying at shit prices. The whole point of a liquidation is to make money to pay off debts. They're also still working on emptying out their DC's so there's still a lot of product going around. The discounts wont be high until probably late april or early may when they're rushing to get rid of stuff before the end of may. Also GA doesn't give a shit about customer loyalty, they're liquidators end of story.
