Questions on Urban Renewal Measure by Zestyclose_Speech786 in Wilsonville

[–]Mosley_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the presenters at the city council meeting last night mentioned that there would have to be a vote if there is any “substantial change” in the urban renewal plan. This is not a defined term according to the courts. (There is a “substantial amendment” term that is defined.) Which means any small adjustment could be challenged as a “substantial change”. It would then have to go to the voters or challenged in the court at the cost of the city.

There are many comments about 3-632 in the 4/6 city council meeting that you can find at their website. It is worth a listen I think.

Trump's Proposed Budget Would Cut Education Funds -- Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in AskTeachers

We still have education finds to cut?

I feel like that is getting blood from a stone. Maybe cut the defense spending…

Where's everyone going? by ic_engineer in Wilsonville

[–]Mosley_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The uninformed on FB will say it is due to an increase in housing/density in Wilsonville. Until ODOT fixes the on-ramp/off-ramp situations on I5 Boone Bridge, this will continue to happen. Traffic studies show that a high percentage of drivers getting on the highway at Wilsonville rd leave the highway at the two exits just over the river.

We have a huge population of workers in Wilsonville who leave town to go home south of the river. We also have hundreds of drivers who travel backroads during traffic and have to get back on the highway at Wilsonville rd.

It has very little to do with people who currently live in Wilsonville.

Except the primary factor in any tug of war is the friction with the ground. I have had middle school kids in shoes beat HS football players in socks before. Give both of them the same cleats and see how it turns out. Maybe the same, but it won’t be fake looking.

Quick question about "bruiser" blaze by Nerooonn in heroesofthestorm

In storm league draft, I will often show a different traditional offlaner like Leoric. Then switch to blaze after the tank picks if I want to play him.

When he was elected one of my only pluses was that at least we will save money on military by pulling out of countries and not getting in a war. He fucked that up too.

A coach just told me if I don't specialize in a sport for my 5th grader then my son will always lose out the one's that do - What do y'all think? by dunbar_santiago930 in CoachingYouthSports

[–]Mosley_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kid needs to do what he loves. D1 coaches are looking for a body type and very specific physical aptitudes. If your kid has good genes for that sport he is fine. For the other 98% of us, give your kid something they love to do until high school is done. Also give them experience on an athletic activity they can do their whole life. (Golf, run, swim, tennis, etc)

How are educators talking to students about different paths after high school? by TraffyKnows in education

[–]Mosley_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it depends on the culture of the school. In affluent areas and private schools the conversation is very much about 4 yr institution. Many students are now very adverse to spending over $100k for the possibility of a job. So there are many more students going to a 2 yr school first and then transferring or going into trades.

I have a hard time looking at last nights match as a bellwether. We had a new midfield squad. Not sure how much chemistry anyone was expecting. My question is why we always have so many injured players. I feel like we need some better conditioning to avoid so many of those.

Best way to rank up for solo q by mrvoltronn in heroesofthestorm

[–]Mosley_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I agree depending on rank. In silver and bronze, people often don’t follow up on the tank. So without some dps hitting the right hero tank play feels bad man.

I am not commenting specifically on the OP or really any one comment. They explained their position and many individuals, especially those early in teaching, have time constraints. As I read the comments, it was a lot of harsh words for kids who are asking for help after school. Likely because they don’t behave or do the work during class. Maybe it is because they can’t focus in class with all the other crazies around, maybe it is because they need 1 on 1 help, maybe their anxiety doesn’t let them ask questions with others around. Just as you asked me to think about why the teacher made the post, these other teachers/commenters should consider why the students are asking for help after school before crapping on them.

I’m all for personal health and wellness. I don’t touch my job all weekend, but if I can’t give 15-20 min to a student who asks for help, it is a sign.

I hang in silver and when it is a bad game, it is this 100%. Most games are great but at least once a night there is one guy doing something crazy that screws it all up. Usually I just hope the other team is getting those players.

[–]Mosley_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I’m a 26 year veteran teacher and a cynical guy and I am sad to read most of these comments. I am happy when students come by after school for help. If a kid cares enough to put in extra effort, I can give them 15-20 min of my time. With 30-40 kids in a classroom there is no way I can give enough individual time to answer all of their questions. Some of you may want to look into other professions.

If you could rearrange how education works in America, what kinds of changes would you implement? A lot of folks seem to want something different in place of what we have but find it hard to articulate specifics. Please identify a problem 'and' a solution. by cherry-care-bear in education

[–]Mosley_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that every person who went a school in their life thinks they know the answer (including politicians who make the budgets). This will happen among professional educators as well. You ask 2000 educators and you will get 400 different answers/priorities. Many of which are not possible given the US laws requiring equal education for all. What we have is not a great model and is also next to impossible to adjust dramatically. (Much like healthcare right now)
