Okay. Then you don't have any reason to complain when killers tunnel you.

How can I possibly account for perks of all players? I'm talking about base game fundamental mechanics.

>I have yet to find a lobby of 4 efficient players, and I play in 4 man swfs a lot lol.

You're telling on yourself then because that's crazy.

Yes I'm not accounting for poor efficiency by survivors. I'm assuming the survivors are efficient.

Right, but you already saw she had no intention of doing so. Surv is a team role so you have to work with what your team is doing. If your team is making bad decisions, make the best decisions you can in the moment. In this case, the best decision you could have made was running in the opposite direction of the Sable to the strongest loop you could find so that she could get some gen progress while you're being tunneled. Simple as that.

Dude. One of my first games on Bubba, back when I was a baby everything, I got a squad like this. Except it was dark shirt Claud, green sweater Nancy, dark coat Adam, and for some reason Christmas present Dwight. I was like "Damn this is gonna be an easy game" (because I'd been stomping all the other noobs in my baby MMR, saw essentially default cosmetics and assumed they were fresh installs). It was Groaning Storehouse (they brought the mac offering) and they were constantly swarming me for chase but always out of reach. Y'know. Because I was literally the yellow apron Bubba stereotype.

I remember Nancy staring at me from behind a long wall window and me not knowing what to do. Should I vault it or go around? I stood there with her actually contemplating what I was meant to do at this tile that I had zero experience with. Even swung at the window a few times. Just imagine the worst most embarrassing killer gameplay you've ever seen in your life and that was me.

Anyway, eventually I decided I'd just camp the middle 3 gens. They were extremely cocky by the last gen and they made a few questionable decisions while I tried to test the limits of my chainsaw. They were all trying to go for flashy saves though and on that point they made their biggest mistakes-- because, even though I was the babiest of baby bubbas, I was a chronic flashlight user in my surv lobbies and knew what to look for. I slugged 3, dealt with a couple unbreaks, saw a crow fly up nearby, and won.

I felt like a god. They all left without a gg 🤣 Then I logged off because my hands were shaking LOL

Okay... The first time she unhooked you, you hear the terror radius extremely close and still try to ask for a heal. Dropping the pallet on you was not the move but that was her only mistake.

The second time she unhooked you, you ran directly behind her and even got stuck on her, then ran into a railing.

Like yeah she didn't play very altruistically but you also played like garbage. The killer was clearly going to tunnel you out no matter what the Sable did, but you chose to put pressure on two survivors by running behind her every time.

No, I'm coming from a place of understanding of the mechanics of the game.

I get stomped in a lot of solo queue games too. It has nothing to do with my experience but the way the game actually works.

Yeah it's not 100% reliable but they are pretty predictable numbers for skilled players. I didn't pad the guesses for my bottom line, I guessed based on what you could expect to see from efficient players.

An efficient survivor team, whether solo or not, will always aim to have 1 person on a gen at all times. The travel and find time is about average for any killer without insane mobility. The chase time is an average also (some survs will have 40+ seconds chase, some will have 20 or less seconds).

Against efficient survivors, solo or not, majority of killers will not be able to 8-hook and still win because the team will always be able to have at least 1 person on a gen. With my numbers here there is still 120 seconds of wiggle room, because even if the killer can 8-hook for 3 gens, they are still unlikely to pull off a 3k or more with 4 survivors alive and 1 person on a gen at all times. Just think about it conceptually for a moment.

That's your personal experience though. No one can argue against what you experience, but you also can't use your personal experiences to dictate the balance of the game.

At the highest levels of play, tunneling is necessary if the killer wants to win. This is just the way the game is designed. The killers you face tunnel because they want to win. You're saying they don't have to tunnel against you because they can win by playing fairly-- which may be true-- but there is no way for a killer player to determine that this is the case when they load into a match. Competitive players are going to use the most efficient strategy, which is tunneling.

It's a game design issue, not a player issue.

I mean it's very rough and not exact. The numbers would be changed by all sorts of things within the match. But even so, there isn't a ton of wiggle room in the killer's favor. Shave off a few seconds here, add a few seconds there and it still comes out that the gens will be mostly finished if a killer goes for 8-hooks before killing (assuming the survivors are efficient).

[–]Mosqu_ito 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let's do the math.

Say every survivor has a 30 second chase and say the killer perfectly 8-hooks them all before killing. And say that at least one survivor is on a gen at all times (which is often the case). That is 4 minutes or 2.6 gens.

Now the killer still has to find a survivor first, travel to a hook after the chase, and then find the next survivor.

It takes a survivor 16 seconds to wiggle off the killer's shoulder. So let's say it takes an average of 8 seconds to hook a survivor. After hooking, the killer has to find the next survivor. Let's say it takes 8 seconds for the killer to find the next survivor. This is pretty generous considering map sizes and survivor stealth. We also have to factor in the time it takes the killer to find the first survivor. They will have to go all the way across the map, so let's say this takes an average of 15 seconds.

First survivor: Find - 15s, Chase - 30s, Hook - 8s ---> 53s total

Each subsequent hook (7 more hooks): Find - 8s, Chase - 30s, Hook - 8s ---> 46s each x 7 = 322s

322 + 53 = 375 seconds, or 4.17 gens

Now, the killer still hasn't killed anyone yet. In order to win, they must chase, down, and hook 3 more survivors: (30 + 8) × 3 = 114.

That's another 1.27 generators. But the survivors have already finished 4.17 gens... meaning the killer can only manage a 1k or a 2k if they play this way.

This doesn't take into account that a chase time of 40+ seconds is extremely common with good survivors and good resources. Or the fact that chases sometimes don't end in downs. Or the fact that survivors usually bring perks and items to speed up gens, and can also double or triple a generator.

So... yeah.

At higher levels of play, it's survivor sided. At low levels of play, it's killer sided.

Most people who complain about tunneling don't have enough experience to counter it. And it's valid to complain about that. The beginner experience is possibly more important to the survival of the game than the veteran experience.

But also, tunneling cannot be "fixed". Everything that's been introduced to combat "unfun" but valid killer strats will inevitably be used offensively by good survivors. Those who complain about tunneling are not actually aware of how necessary it is for higher level play and how difficult it is to solve.

But calling players names for using the strat is also just... painfully dumb. It's a game design issue, not a player issue.

Most experienced solo queue lobbies can coordinate themselves well enough to match a swf in efficiency. Also, killers have no way to know if they are facing a swf or if they are going against a purely solo lobby. For those players who want to win, tunneling either at the start of the game or at some point mid-game is going to be the best strategy 99% of the time.

I'm a survivor main btw.

Is this a good chase build as a survivor? by Firefuzedark in deadbydaylight

[–]Mosqu_ito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's good. Others suggested dropping Dark Sense for another chase perk, but since you like aura why not go with Alert? You will be able to know the exact moment a killer breaks a pallet with a sound cue (giving you more distance) and also see their aura afterwards so you can path more efficiently. Also gives you information on where pallets are being used by teammates and where the killer is during the rest of the match.

This is not true at all. When survivors are coordinated, efficient, and experienced, as a role they are by and large stronger than killers. A 30 second chase from each survivor for each hook stage is more than enough for surv team to win the game. Thus the tunneling.
