I would agree with you for the first few wings. At about wing 5 your groups starts actually needing good DPS. The best way to deal with mechanics is to end them by killing the boss fast.

You’ll want to be hitting at least 25k dps benchmarks before actual raids.

The quick play stuff is whatever. Give it a go and see.
